10. Mission or Major Functions:

Active mission support activities include a tactical air support squadron, responsible for control of operational airto-ground mission; a tactical fighter detachment of an Alaskan Air Command operational unit which maintains a fighter forward alert force with an air defense mission; a Strategic Air Command operational RC-135 unit performing strategic reconnaissance activities; and a Strategic Air Command operational KC-135 unit which maintains an air refueling force on a rotational basis.

Reinforced concrete footings and floor slab, pre-engineered metal building. Utilities and necessary support. Includes open maintenance space, shops, tool storage, supply storage, testing room, indoor washrack, administrative and mechanical areas.

11. REQUIREMENT: 34,600 SF ADEQUATE: 4,600 SF SUBSTANDARD: 65,200 SF PROJECT: Construct an aircraft support equipment shop to replace substandard facilities.

REQUIREMENT: An adequate ground support equipment shop is required for the inspection, maintenance, repair, service, and storage of aircraft support equipment, with administrative space for the dispatch of mobile equipment to furnish various services to aircraft.

CURRENT SITUATION: Currently these functions are being accommodated in seven widely scattered substandard facilities that are nearly 30 years old. These buildings, which were originally constructed as aircraft maintenance shops or hangars, are poorly configured and do not have adequate lighting, ventilation and power, and are high energy consumers. The dispersed method of operation coupled with the severe arctic weather conditions results in a lower quality of work and impedes production. This project will provide a properly sized and configured facility to accommmodate these essential mission support activities.

IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: Mission essential aircraft ground support equipment will continue to be maintained in substandard functionally inadequate facilities.

10 DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION Reinforced concrete footings and floor slab, masonry walls, inverted roof membrane assembly, special air conditioning for environmental control, raised computer flooring, fire protection systems, utilities and necessary support. All electrical, structural and mechanical required to provide an effective, functional facility. Includes computer and remote terminal rooms, tape library, supply, storage, maintenance and administrative areas. Air Conditioning 11. REQUIREMENT: 6,730 SF ADEQUATE: 0 SUBSTANDARD 3,800 SF PROJECT: Add to and alter an existing data processing facility. REQUIREMENT: A properly sized and configured facility is required to house the new Phase IV computer. The Phase IV computer acquisition program affects every USAF installation and represents a $50 million annual savings Air Force wide by replacing obsolete Burroughs 3500/3700/4700 and Univac 1050-II computers. It is necessary to support essential weapon system maintenance and supply activities, and permit more effective management of personnel, financial, engineering, and equipment resources at Base Level. The computer system is scheduled for delivery in April 1984. CURRENT SITUATION: The existing computer and remote job entry terminal to be replaced by the Phase IV computer are located in two separate facilities. The current physical limitation of these facilities will not permit installation of the new Phase IV computer. There is no other facility available that meets the required space criteria. Enlargement and reconfiguration of one of the facilities is necessary to adequately accommodate the new computer equipment and associated support functions.

IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: We will have no place to house the expensive new computer now on order.
