REQUIREMENT: A properly sized and configured facility is required to house the new Joint Surveillance System (JSS) and provide a Hawaii Region Operations Control Center. The JSS equipment replaces existing manual air defense tracking equipment with a sophisticated computerized system. It is necessary to support essential JSS systems maintenance, operations and supply activit ties. The JSS is scheduled for delivery to the Hawaii Air National Guard in May 1983. The present facility will be returned to the USAF to satisfy other facility requirements. CURRENT SITUATION: Currently all major equipment is located in the Air Defense Direction and Control Centers with micorwave communications and radar terminals positioned in the adjacent room along with CEM maintenance and staff functions. The physical limitations of the existing facility will not permit direct installation of the JSS due to the increased space necessary plus added maintenance shop, supply, administrative support, UPS power, backup generators and air conditioning. There are no other existing facilities available that meet the space requirements. IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: There will be no place to house the $12 million |
