Alternative construction materials will be evaluated for competitive quality, economy and functional adequacy. Area includes six munitions storage cells for storing different storage compatability groups. 11. REQUIREMENT: 2,654 SF. ADEQUATE : -0-. SUBSTANDARD: 2,654 SF. PROJECT: A segregated magazine for properly storing and segregating small quantities of explosives of different storage compatability groups in support of visiting units deployed to the ANG/FTS, Savannah, GA. REQUIREMENT: The facility is based on standard designs for segregated explosive storage. The training site must store six types of explosives to support the various units deployed to the site. (For type of explosives see DD 1391c Floor Plan). CURRENT SITUATION: Presently, there are six separate facilities used to store the on hand explosives. However, land negotiations are being finalized to transfer the land currently used for the explosive storage area to the airport for their expansion program. In addition a waiver for the area must be maintained due to the close proximity of the control tower. The area proposed for the new explosive storage area provides greater access for the FTS. IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: Without this facility operational training for the deployed weapon systems would be significantly reduced or possibly eliminated. |
