RESERVE TRAINING BUILDING ORLANDO, FLORIDA

ADDITION

[blocks in formation]

BUILDING ADDITION CONSTRUCTED OF CONCRETE BLOCK W/BRICK VENEER ON EXTERIOR
WALLS AND BAR JOISTS WITH A BUILT-UP ROOF OVER A PREFORMED ROOF DECK; CON
CRETE SLAB FLOOR ON GRADE WITH TERRAZO TOPPING. TOTAL AREA INCLUDES TOI-
LETS, UNIT ADMINISTRATION, CONFERENCE ROOM, STORAGE, AND CLASSROOMS; 30 TON
AIR CONDITIONING REQUIREMENT.
11. REQUIREMENT: 30,895 SF ADEQUATE: 17,246 SF SUB-STANDARD: 0 SF
PROJECT: CONSTRUCT BUILDING ADDITION TO PROVIDE THE REQUIRED SPACES IN
TRAINING NAVAL RESERVISTS.
REQUIREMENT: THE SIGNIFICANT INCREASE IN THE NUMBER OF DRILLING UNITS AND
RESERVISTS ASSIGNED AS WELL AS DESIGNATION OF RESERVE CENTER AS A CENTRAL
DRILL SITE WITH A PROMINENT PORTION BEING CONVERTED TO SHIPBOARD SIMULATOR
AND DAMAGE CONTROL TRAINER, HAS CREATED A CRITICAL SHORTAGE OF SPACE FOR
TRAINING. ADDITION WILL PROVIDE FOR MULTI-MEDIA TRAINING, UNIT ADMINISTRA-
TION, CONFERENCE ROOM, AND STORAGE WHICH ARE PRESENTLY NON-EXISTENT, AND
CLASSROOMS AND TOILETS TO AUGMENT PRESENTLY INADEQUATE FACILITIES.
CURRENT SITUATION: SPACES PREVIOUSLY USED AS CLASSROOMS AND ADMINISTRATIVE
SPACES ARE BEING MODIFIED FOR THE INSTALLATION OF THE SHIPBOARD SIMULATOR,
WITH EQUIPMENT INSTALLED IN LATE 1981. THE AREA DESIGNATED FOR DAMAGE Cat
TROL TRAINING SCHEDULED FOR COMPLETION IN EARLY FY 1982 IS PRESENTLY BEING
USED AS A STORAGE AREA WHILE THE SHOPS OFTEN USED AS CLASSROOMS.
IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: WITH SHIPBOARD SIMULATOR AND DAMAGE CONTROL TRAINER
PLACED IN OPERATION, THE AVAILABLE SPACE FOR TRAINING AND UNIT ADMINISTRA
TION FOR THE 500 NAVAL RESERVISTS IN 15 UNITS HAS BEEN LOST. SHIPBOARD SIM
ULATOR TRAINING IS THE ONLY VIABLE TRAINING AVAILABLE. RECRUITING WILL HAVE
TO BE CURTAILED IN THE ORLANDO AREA DUE TO THE LACK OF TRAINING FACILITIES.
ADDITIONAL: AN ECONOMIC ANALYSIS HAS NOT BEEN PREPARED AS THERE IS NO
ALTERNATIVE TO MEET THIS OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENT.
