10. DESCRIPTION OF PROPOSED CONSTRUCTION A specially designed facility of permanent masonry type construction, brick and/or concrete block units, with built-up roof and concrete floors. One-story structure with necessary mechanical and electrical equipment. Air Conditioning - None 11. REQUIREMENT: 15,649 SF ADEQUATE: 0 SUBSTANDARD: 2,400 SF PROJECT: A new armory facility is required to serve the peacetime mission of the unit, which will permit the unit to perform their various military skills. REQUIREMENT: The armory is required to house Detachment 1, Howitzer Battery, 1st Squadron, 163d Armored Cavalry, Montana Army National Guard, and will provide the necessary functional areas required for training personnel to achieve proficiency for a wartime mission. The armory will be sited on a 5+ acre, State-owned site. CURRENT SITUATION: The unit presently occupies an old cinder block Motor Vehicle Storage Building, constructed in the early 50's, containing approximately 2,400 square feet. It lacks all functional areas expected of an armory, and is not energy, security, or safety sound. The present building will be leased by the State of Montana. IMPACT IF NOT PROVIDED: The unit would, out of necessity, continue using the present storage building which lacks all functional areas, as well as being totally unsound: energy, security, and safety wise. Mobilization readiness would be greatly affected.
