Mr. Lynne, having received all the votes cast, was declared duly and constitutionally elected Speaker of the House for the term prescribed by law.

Messrs. Tompkins, Tunstall and Sparks were appointed as a committee to notify Mr. Lynne of his election and to escort him to the chair.

Mr. Lynne appeared and took the oath of office, administered by Judge Henry P. Merritt.

ELECTION OF OFFICERS.

The House proceeded to the consideration of the election of subordinate officers.

Mr. Deese nominated Mr. John Q. Adams of Dale for Assistant Clerk and those who voted for Mr. Adams are:

Mr. Blunt nominated Mr. Max Porterfield of Butler for Enrolling Clerk. Those who voted for Mr. Porterfield are:

Mr. Porterfield having received all the votes cast, was declared duly and constitutionally elected Enrolling Clerk of the House for the term prescribed by law.

Mr. Ross nominated Mr. Leon Jackson for Engrossing Clerk. Those who voted for Mr. Jackson are:

Mr. Herlong having received a majority, was declared duly and constitutionally elected Assistant Doorkeeper of the House for the term prescribed by law.

OATH OF OFFICE.

Messrs. Adams, Porterfield, Jackson, Fain and Herlong appeared and the oath of office was administered to them by Hon. S. A. Lynne, Speaker of the House.

MESSAGE FROM THE SENATE.

I am directed by the Senate to notify the House that the Senate has organized by the election of the same officers and employees who served at the last regular session, and that it is ready for the transaction of the public business.

Also the following joint resolution which was adopted: By Mr. Carmichael:

S. J. R. 4. Resolved by the Senate, the House concurring, that a joint committee of two from the Senate and three from the House be appointed to wait upon the governor and notify him that the Legislature is duly organized and will be in joint session in the House of Representatives at two-thirty o'clock this afternoon to receive any communication that he desires to submit.

SENATE MESSAGE.

On motion of Mr. Long of Butler, the House concurred in and adopted S. J. R. 4, which is set out in the above and foregoing message from the Senate and the Speaker appointed on part of the House Messrs. Tompkins, Fite and Long of Butler.

RESOLUTIONS.

The following resolutions were introduced:

By Mr. Deese:

H. R. 2. Whereas, a Doorkeeper is necessary for the orderly procedure of the business of this House, and

Whereas, Hon. J. F. Pouncey, the faithful and beloved Doorkeeper is unable to discharge the duties of the position in the extraordinary session now beginning, because of serious physical disabilities;

Therefore, be it resolved, that the office be declared vacant, and the House proceed to the election of a Doorkeeper.

The rules were suspended and the resolution was adopted. By Mr. Tunstall:

H. R. 3. Resolved, that the rules adopted by this House at the last preceding regular session of the Legislature be and continue the rules of this House.

H. R. 4. Resolved, that the standing committees as constituted at the last regular session of the Legislature shall be the standing committees for this special session except where in the judgment of the Speaker the assignment of new members to the committees renders necessary the change in assignment of any members to any of the standing committees and the number of members of any committee may be increased as to the Speaker may seem necessary.

The rules were suspended and the resolution was adopted.
