• The pins mentioned here are intended to keep the curtains steady. However, it is doubtful whether their own weight was sufficient to answer that purpose, or if they were fixed to the ground.

5 Commentators are of opinion that the purport of this section, is to enamerate the exact quantity of the gold, silver, &c. which Moses received for the offering of the tabernacle; and that Moses gave an exact account of what he had received.-But to this it may be objected, that as it is said, chap. xxxvi. ver. 4 and 5. “That all the wise men came from their work, and spake unto Moses," saying, The people bring much more than enough." It may therefore be inquired what Moses did with what was left? To this it may be answered, that it was brought into the Lord's treasure, to be used when necessary to make utensils, if any should be lost, &c. -See Abarbanel, ibid. xxxvi. 26.

* Some commentators, from this passage, have been of opinion, that the cherubims were in the form of flying oxen, imagining that otherwise they could not have their faces at the same time towards one another, and towards the mercy-seat. But if they were of a human figure, their faces might be tumed towards each other, and at the same time their eyes directed downwards to the mercy-seat,
