SUBCOMMITTEE ON MILITARY CONSTRUCTION,

OF THE COMMITTEE ON ARMED SERVICES,

The Military Construction_Subcommittee (composed of Senators Jackson, chairman, Cannon, Byrd of West Virginia, Inouye, Thurmond, and Tower), appointed to consider S. 3105, the military construction authorization for 1967, met, pursuant to call, at 10 a.m., in room 212, Old Senate Office Building.

Present: Senators Jackson (presiding), Cannon, Byrd of West Virginia, Inouye, and Tower.

Also present: Gordon A. Nease, professional staff member; Charles Kirbow, chief clerk; and Herbert Atkinson, assistant chief clerk.

Senator JACKSON. The subcommittee will come to order. The subcommittee is convening this morning to begin hearings on the military construction authorization bill for fiscal year 1967, S. 3105. A companion bill which will eventually be considered by the House committee is H.R. 13715. Barring unforeseen circumstances, it is contemplated that we will complete our hearings by the latter part of this week.

A BILL To authorize certain construction at military installations, and for other purposes.

Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the United States of America in Congress assembled,

TITLE I

SEC. 101. The Secretary of the Army may establish or develop military installations and facilities by acquiring, constructing, converting, rehabilitating, or installing permanent or temporary public works, including site preparations, appurtenances, utilities and equipment for the following projects:

Fort Devens, Massachusetts: Troop housing, $7,117,000.

Fort Dix, New Jersey: Training facilities, $1,914,000.

Fort Eustis, Virginia: Training facilities, maintenance facilities, and troop housing, $957,000.

Fort Knox, Kentucky: Training facilities, and utilities, $2,536,000.

Armed Forces Examining Entrance Station, Montgomery, Alabama: Administrative facilitis, $235,000.

Fort Campbell, Kentucky: Operational facilities, $355,000.
