Be merciful unto me, and forgive me all my Sins, which, by the malice of the devil, or by my own frailty, I have at any time of my life committed against thee. Lay not to my charge, what in the luft of the flesh, in the luft of the eye, in the pride and vanity of life, I have committed against thee. Lay not to my charge, what by an angry or revengeful fpirit, by vain, and idle, and profane words, by curfing and fwearing, or by bearing falfe witness, I have com. mitted against thee. God, merciful Father, that defpifeft not the fighing of a contrite heart, nor the defires of fuch as be forrowful: mercifully affift my prayers which I make be fore thee at fuch times efpecially as the present, when I am preparing my Soul for its removal from this world, and earnestly fupplicating thy pardon for all thofe offences, which have brought me into this place of Solitude and confinement. And, O Lord, gracioufly hear me, that thofe evils, thofe illufions and affaults, which my great Enemy worketh against me, may be brought to nought, and by the providence of thy goodness they may be difperfed; that thy fervant, being delivered from all temptations, may give give thanks to thee, with thy holy church, to all eternity. Amen. 1 The following prayers may be added to this Service, as occafion may require. ་ Moft gracious God! who, out of thy great Love and tender regard for mankind, haft fet before us Life and Death, Bleffing and Curfing; and haft endued us with a freedom of will, and a liberty to choose the one, and avoid the other; and, to encourage us to make a right choice, haft annexed a pre"fent as well as a future, reward to our obedience to thy Laws, and made the ways of religion, ways of pleasantnefs and all its paths to be peace: O give me wifdom and underftanding, that I may no longer be carried away by the deceitful pleafures of this world; but may fee, and Q3 W. And grant that thefe momentous truths may be fo deeply impreffed upon my mind by my present sufferings, that may make it the fincere Endeavour of my future Life, to please and obey thee, who art my Sovereign Good and Happiness; the only fure foundation of all my hopes, both here and hereafter; and in comparison of whofe favor, all the honors, riches, and enjoyments of this world are as nothing.
