Deliver Soul from the power of the Enemy, left he tear it in pieces, if there be none to help. Be merciful unto me, and forgive me all my Sins, which, by the malice of the devil, or by my own frailty, I have at any time of my life committed against thee.

Lay not to my charge, what in the luft of the flesh, in the luft of the eye, in the pride and vanity of life, I have committed against thee.

God, merciful Father, that defpifeft not the fighing of a contrite heart, nor the defires of fuch as be forrowful: mercifully affift my prayers which I make be fore thee at fuch times efpecially as the present, when I am preparing my Soul for its removal from this world, and earnestly fupplicating thy pardon for all thofe offences, which have brought me into this place of Solitude and confinement. And, O Lord, gracioufly hear me, that thofe evils, thofe illufions and affaults, which my great Enemy worketh against me, may be brought to nought, and by the providence of thy goodness they may be difperfed; that thy fervant, being delivered from all temptations, may

Convince me more and more, that Sin is the greatest of all Evils that Guilt and Mifery are always infeparable; and that there is no folid and fubftantial Happiness to be attained in this life, but what refults from the teftimony of a good confcience, and the hopes of thy. favor and acceptance. And grant that thefe momentous truths may be fo deeply impreffed upon my mind by my present sufferings, that may make it the fincere Endeavour of my future Life, to please and obey thee, who art my Sovereign Good and Happiness; the only fure foundation of all my hopes, both here and hereafter; and in comparison of whofe favor, all the honors, riches, and enjoyments of this world are as nothing.
