ORTIFY my Soul, bleffed Jefus, with the fame Spirit of Submiffion with which thou underwenteft the death of the cross, that I may receive all Events with refignation to the Will of God;-that I may receive troubles, afflictions, imprisonments, disappointments, fickness, and death itself, without amazement; these being the appointment of thy Juftice, for the punishment of fin; and of thy mercy, for the Salvation of Sinners. Let this be the conftant practice of my life, to be pleafed with all thy choices, that when fickness and death approach, I may be prepared to fubmit my will to the will of my Maker.

Almighty God, who for my fins haft removed me from the fociety of the world, and placed me in this folitude, grant that I may use this confinement in fuch a manner, as that it may conduce to the faving of my Soul. I am now fenfible that I was undeferving of the flation which I poffeffed among my fellow creatures, and therefore I am refigned to my prefent Situation. Yet, O Thou, who art good to allbe merciful to me, and restore me to that liberty, which thou giveft to all men as a bleffing. For ever after will I be thankful for it, and by thy Grace use it only in promoting the Happiness of others; and fulfilling, in the beft manner I am able, the several duties of life. From the fting and terrors of confcience; from impatience dif truft or difpair; from extremity of ficknefs and pain, which may withdraw my mind from thee, my God; from the severities and miseries of imprisonment;

Good Lord, deliver me. From the bitter pangs of eternal Death; from the Gates of Hell;
