ourselves to follow the bleffed fteps of his most holy life, through the fame Jefus Chrift our Lord. Amen.

The Lord be with me; and cause me more earneftly to offer my Prayers and Supplications.

Lord have mercy upon me.
Chrift have mercy upon me.
Lord have mercy upon me.

OUR Father which art in Hea

ven, hallowed be thy name; thy kingdom come; thy will be done in Earth, as it is in Heaven; give us this day our daily bread; and forgive us our trefpaffes, as we forgive them that trefpafs against us; and lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil; for thine is the kingdom, and the Power, and the Glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

O Lord fave thy Servant,
Who putteth his truft in thee:

Send

Send unto him help from above,
And evermore mightily defend

him.

Help me, O God our Saviour; And for the glory of thy name deliver me; be merciful to me, a Sinner, for thy name's fake.

O Lord hear the prayers of the poor prisoners;

And let their cry come unto thee.

A Prayer to be used in the morning.

O

Almighty God, under whose wing all the Children of men have reft, I return unto thee the fincereft tribute of thanks for the refreshment which thou haft afforded me the night paft. Miferable though I am on account of my fins, and unhappy in having offended thee, yet thou difdaineft not to give peace to the penitent heart, and to clofe the wakeful Eyes with Slum bers. Or, if alarmed by my Iniqui ties I have lain reftlefs upon my

bed,

bed, with the anxiety of those that watch for the morning, ftill thy providence was my guide, and did fanctify the words of my mouth, and the meditations of my heart. O grant that the Influence of thy holy Spirit may reft upon me, not only during the enfuing day, but for the remainder of my life; that when death comes, I may lay me down in peace, may reft in hope, and rife in Glory. All this I beg for Jefus Chrift's fake. Amen.

I A Prayer to be used in the evening.

O

Father of mercies, who didft vifit thy faithful Servants in the dungeon, how fhall I look up to thee and pray for thy protection who have fo often and fo grievously offended thee. The punishment of my Sins hath at last overtaken me; and thefe chains, and this place of folitude and horror, very forcibly imprefs them on my mind. Let

the

the impreffion be fo flrong as to make me utterly deteft them, and, before I lay my head upon my pillow, refolve never to repeat them. How can I expect the refreshment of Sleep, if I do not endeavour to make my peace with thee, my God? And how can I more acceptably perform this neceflary Service, than by relying on the merits, and trufting to the mediation of my Saviour. Grant, O God, this my earnest requeft purify my Soul from all guilt and pollution, and fpeak peace to a heart pierced with many for rows, grieved and wearied with a multitude of Sins. Let me lie down to fleep trufting in thy mercies: keep me from the dangers of the night; and when thou art pleafed to take me out of this world, take me to thyself, and give me fuch a degree of Happinefs, as I can only be entitled to thro' the fatisfaction of thy Son Jefus Chrift our Lord. Amen.

O God

God who feeft all our weak

neffes, and the troubles we labour under, have regard unto the prayers of thy Servant, who ftands. in need of thy comfort, thy direction and thy help. Grant that I may fuffer like a Chriftian, not grieve like an unbeliever; that I may receive troubles as a punishment due to my past offences-as an exercife of my faith, patience and humility-and as a trial of my obedience; and that I may improve all afflictions to the good of my Soul and thy Glory. Thou alone knoweft what is beft for us; let me never difpute thy wifdom or thy Goodness. Direct my reafon, fubdue my paffions, put a stop to my roving thoughts and fears, and let me have the comfort of thy promife and of thy protection, both now and ever, for Jefus Chrift's fake. Amen.
