WHEN

WHEN our Lord faid unto the twelve, will ye alfo go away? Simon Peter anfwered him, Lord to whom shall we go? thou haft the words of eternal life. In like manner, to whom fhall the afflicted prifoner apply, but to him that bringeth out the prifoners from the prifon, and them that fit in darkness out of the prifonhoufe?-Happy may that prifoner be efteemed, who is thus defirous of employing the hours of his captivity. To affift him in pouring out his Soul to the God of his Salvation, the following prayers

have been selected. If the form of prayer for prisoners in folitary confinement should be thought too long, it may be answered, that of all men they certainly have the greateft leisure for devotion. And if their reformation be the object of their confinement, it cannot be wrong, to induce them to dwell fo long upon a train of religious reflections, as to acquire a relish for prayer, and a more fervent Love for that God, whom they have offended. When the prisoner becomes fenfible of his Situation he will confider the length of his devotions as a comfort to him.
