Purpose and Scope

This program provides for the support of the military family housing function within the Department of Navy.

Program Summary

Authorization is requested for:

(1) The performance of certain construction summarized hereafter; and

(2) The appropriation of $796,844,000:

(a) to fund this construction; and

(b) to fund partially, certain other functions already authorized in existing legislation.

Purpose and Scope

This program provides for land acquisition, site preparation, construction, and initial outfitting with fixtures and integral equipment of new family housing units and associated facilities such as roads, driveways, walks, utility systems, solar energy systems, and community and recreational facilities.

Program Summary

Authorization is requested for:

(1) Construction of 749 units of family housing;

(2)

Acquisition of 1,000 previously unacquired Wherry housing units;

Land acquisition in support of future family
housing construction; and

Appropriation of $84,513,000 to fund this
acquisition and construction.

Provide training facilities, logistical support, and
certain administrative support for Fleet Marine Force
units and other units assigned; to conduct specialized
schools and other training as directed; to receive and
process trainees and conduct individual combat training
as directed.

Family housing units will be two-story apartment flats or townhouse configurations with exteriors of stucco, wood and/or masonry. Interior finish includes gypsum board walls/ceilings, vinyl asbestos floors and carpeting of second floor flats. Scope includes carports, patios, privacy screening and exterior storage. Basketball, handball and tennis courts are provided in addition to tot lots for recreational support within the housing Jarea. An active solar system will provide 45% of the domestic hot water if cost effective.

Any air and water emissions resulting from the project will meet applicable federal standards.

An Environmental Assessment has been prepared on the project and is under review by the Commandant of the Marine Corps.
