OPENING STATEMENT BY SENATOR PETE WILSON, CHAIRMAN Senator WILSON. If there are any in the audience who are here because of their interest in the porn rock hearings, this is not the place.

Senator NUNN. We hope.

Senator WILSON. Yes; it is early in the hearing.

Senator GLENN. I hope you gentlemen brought some good records with you this morning.

Senator WILSON. Good morning, ladies and gentlemen, this is a meeting of the Manpower and Personnel Subcommittee of the Senate Armed Service Committee and this morning we are holding a hearing on wartime medical readiness.

With me are the distinguished ranking member of the subcommittee, Senator Glenn of Ohio, and the distinguished ranking member of the full committee, Senator Nunn of Georgia. Both of them share my interest in this area.

We are expecting others to appear. We have been notified that if the schedule permits, they will be with us.

The subcommittee meets this morning to conduct the first in a series of oversight hearings on the military health care system. It has been more than 3 years since this subcommittee had the opportunity to focus specifically on the status of the military medical system.
