Art. 268. Resolved by the Senate and House of A gold medal Representatives of the United States of to capt. TruxAmerica in Congress assembled, That the President of the United States be requested to present to captain Thomas Truxton, a golden medal, emblematical of the late action between the United States' frigate Constellation, of thirtyeight guns, and the French ship of war La Vengeance, of fifty-four; in testimony of the high sense entertained by Congress of his gallantry and good conduct in the above engagement, wherein an example was exhibited by the captain, officers, sailors, and marines, honourable to the American name, and instructive to its rising navy.

Art. 269.

And it is further resolved, That the conduct of James Jarvis, a midshipman James Jarvis, in said frigate, who gloriously preferred a midshipman, certain death to an abandonment of his

Resolved, &c. That the thanks of Congress be, and the same are hereby, presented to commodore Edward Preble, Preble, officers and through him to the officers, seamen, and marines, attached to the squadron under his command, for their gallantry and good conduct, displayed in the several attacks on the town, batteries, and naval force, of Tripoli, in the year 1804.

And be it further resolved, An Elegant That the President of the United States sword to lieut. be, and he hereby is, requested to present to lieutenant Elliot, of the navy of the United States, an elegant sword, with suitable emblems and devices, in testimony of the just sense entertained by Congress of his gallantry and good conduct in boarding and capturing the British brigs Detroit and Caledonia, while anchored under the protection of fort Erie.
