SETTLEMENT OF RETURNING VETERANS ON FARMS

IN RECLAMATION PROJECTS

MONDAY, APRIL 30, 1945

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,

COMMITTEE ON IRRIGATION AND RECLAMATION,

Washington, D. C.

The Committee on Irrigation and Reclamation met in the committee room, Old House Office Building, at 10 a. m., Hon. John R. Murdock, chairman, presiding.

Other members present were: Hon. J. W. Robinson, Hon. Antonio M. Fernandez, Hon. Chester H. Gross, Hon. A. L. Miller, Hon. Frank A. Barrett, and Hon. George P. Miller.

Mr. MILLER of California. May the record show at this point, Mr. Chairman, that the Honorable James G. Scrugham is now past vice commander of the American Legion, and in the early days of the American Legion was one of the most active men in the country in veterans' affairs. I have had the pleasure of knowing him in the past. Chairman MURDOCK. I am glad to get the comment of the gentleman from California [Mr. Miller] in regard to Mr. Scrugham. He has shown great interest in benefits for veterans.

Mr. MILLER of California. He is a past national vice commander of the American Legion.

Chairman MURDOCK. Even before we entered the Second World War I had outlined some of the things I thought ought to be done, and I
