1577 The first and genuine edition. In the later most desirable books in an English Historical editions the language was much altered, and the Library, but so scarce to be met with in a perfect woodcuts omitted. By some this third edition is considered of greater rarity than even the first edition, on account of the greater portion of the impression having been destroyed in the great fire of London.

With the exception of the leaf of portrait and verses being supplied from the fourth impression, and the last leaf mended, the above is a good, sound, and perfect copy of this valuable volume.

The publishers of the fourth edition in 1685, appear to have considered the destruction of the third edition so extensive as to entitle Harward's copy fetched in 1858, £31. 10s; them to treat it as a non-entity; and accord- another with the portrait on the title, £51. 98; ingly say on their title page, "unto which is Dr. Bliss', £51.; Miss Currer's. 1862, £43. 10s; added Seven Plays never before printed in 1864, Sotheby, £58.; 1866, Daniell' copy fetched Folio," though they had been previously printed above £125, and it is rapidly rising in price. 12718 SHAKESPEARE'S Comedies, Histories, and Tragedies, to which is added Seven Plays never before printed in folio, fourth edition, very fine copy, without the portrait by Droeshout and Ben Jonson's verses, also wanting last leaf, bound, £36.
