LOAN GUARANTY BENEFITS

You may qualify for VA assistance in obtaining a GI loan. World War II and Korean conflict veterans, and veterans with 181 days of active service since January 31, 1955, are eligible for assistance in purchasing, constructing or improving a home; in buying a farm, farmland, farm supplies or equipment; and for World War II or Korean conflict veterans in buying a business or otherwise undertaking or expanding a legitimate business venture. Although discharge or release from active duty is generally required, a serviceman who meets the service requirements may qualify for GI loan benefits while hospitalized pending final discharge. Generally speaking, the Veterans Administration will guaranty loans made by private lenders as follows:

Direct loans may be made by the VA only in areas where it has been determined that private mortgage financing is not available. The amount of a direct loan may not exceed $21,000 as a general rule and may be used only for the purchase of homes and farm houses.

Since this benefit is a loan which must be repaid, you must have sufficient income to meet the mortgage payments and your other obligations and expenses. In addition to the income requirement, you must be a satisfactory credit risk.

SPECIALLY ADAPTED HOUSING.

You may be eligible for assistance in obtaining a grant from the Veterans Administration of not more than 50 percent--but not to exceed $12,500-toward the acquisition, construction or remodeling of a dwelling specially adapted to your needs. To be eligible for this type of assistance you must be entitled to compensation for permanent and total disability due to:

1. Loss or loss of use of both legs So that you need braces, crutches, canes or a wheelchair for movement from place to place; or

2. Blindness of both eyes, having only light perception, plus loss or loss of use of one leg.

3. The loss or loss of use of one lower extremity together with residuals of organic disease or injury which so affect the function of balance or propulsion as to preclude locomotion without resort to a wheelchair.

AUTOMOBILES OR OTHER CONVEYANCES

You may be entitled to a grant of $1600 towards the purchase price of an automobile or other conveyance, including the necessary special equipment you need for safe operation. This grant is paid to the seller after the VA has approved the purchase. To be eligible for this benefit you must first apply to the VA to have your entitlement determined. If it is determined that you are entitled, the VA will issue you a certificate of eligibility for you to present to the seller when you contract for the purchase.

This benefit is provided for those veterans who have lost or lost the use of one or both hands or one or both feet; or have permanent blindness in both eyes.

DO NOT PURCHASE OR ACCEPT DELIVERY OF AN AUTOMOBILE UNTIL THE VA HAS ISSUED TO YOU THE CERTIFICATE OF ELIGIBILITY AND HAS APPROVED THE PURCHASE.

EDUCATION FOR WIFE OR WIDOW AND SONS AND DAUGHTERS

If you are rated by the VA as 100 percent permanently disabled, from service-connected causes your wife and your children (between ages 18 and 26)

are eligible to receive educational assistance. This financial assistance provides up to 36 months of educational or vocational training. A monthly allowance of $175 for full-time training or a lesser amount for part-time training is provided. Counseling is available to a wife and is furnished children to help plan the education or vocational program. Special attention is given to the selection of training programs for handicapped children. This same benefit is provided for widows and orphans of deceased veterans whose death occurred in service or was due to a service-connected disability.

AID FOR THE BLIND

For this benefit the veteran must be legally blind and must either be entitled to compensation for a serviceconnected disability or in receipt of pension based on the need for regular aid and attendance. For the veteran in receipt of compensation, the blindness. itself need not be service-connected. Items which may be furnished to blind veterans include:

1. Approved electronic and mechanical aids for the blind, and necessary repair and replacement.

2. Guide dogs, including the expense of training the dog, and the dog's medical attention.

The Contact Representative who assisted you, completed the mailing address portion of the card. It is VERY IMPORTANT that you mail this card to us as soon as you know the date of your separation from the armed forces. We can then take the necessary actions to insure prompt processing of your benefit applications. This will result in your receiving benefit determinations and disability compensation, if payable, at the earliest possible date.
