ST. JOHN vi. 47-58.

VERILY, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me hath everlasting life. I am that bread of life. Your fathers did eat manna in the wilderness, and are dead. This is the bread which cometh down from heaven, that a man may eat thereof, and not die. I am the living bread which came down from heaven: if any man eat of this bread, he shall live for ever: and the bread that I will give is My flesh, which I will give for the life of the world. The Jews therefore strove among themselves, saying, How can this Man give us His flesh to eat? Then JESUS said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except ye eat the flesh of the Son of man, and drink His blood, ye have no life in you. Whoso eateth My flesh, and drinketh My blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day. For My flesh is meat indeed, and My blood is drink indeed. He that eateth My flesh, and drinketh My blood, dwelleth in Me, and I in him. As the living FATHER hath sent Me, and I live by the FATHER: So he that eateth Me, even he shall live by Me. This is that bread which came down from heaven: not as your fathers did eat manna, and are dead: he that eateth of this bread shall live for ever.

ST. JOHN X. 1-18.

VERILY, verily, I say unto you, He that entereth not by the door into the sheepfold, but climbeth up some other way, the same is a thief and a

robber. But he that entereth in by the door is the shepherd of the sheep. To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice. And a stranger will they not follow, but will flee from him: for they know not the voice of strangers. This parable spake JESUS unto them: but they understood not what things they were which He spake unto them. Then said JESUS unto them again, Verily, verily, I say unto you, I am the Door of the sheep. All that ever came before Me are thieves and robbers: but the sheep did not hear them. I am the Door: by Me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. The thief cometh not, but for to steal, and to kill, and to destroy: I am come that they might have life, and that they might have it more abundantly. I am the Good Shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep. But he that is an hireling, and not the shepherd, whose own the sheep are not, seeth the wolf coming, and leaveth the sheep, and fleeth: and the wolf catcheth them, and scattereth the sheep. The hireling fleeth, because he is an hireling, and careth not for the sheep. I am the Good Shepherd, and know My sheep, and am known of Mine. As the FATHER knoweth Me, even so know I the FATHER: and I lay down My life for the sheep. And other sheep I have, which are not of this fold: them also I must bring, and they shall hear My voice: and there shall be one fold, and one Shepherd. Therefore doth My FATHER love Me because I lay down My life, that I might take it again. No man

taketh it from Me, but I lay it down of Myself. I have power to lay it down, and I have power to take it again. This commandment have received of My FATHER.

ST. JOHN xi. 20–27.

THEN Martha, as soon as she heard that JESUS was coming, went and met Him: but Mary sat still in the house. Then said Martha unto JESUS, LORD, if Thou hadst been here, my brother had not died. But I know, that even now, whatsoever Thou wilt ask of GOD, GOD will give it Thee. JESUS saith unto her, Thy brother shall rise again. Martha saith unto Him, I know that he shall rise again in the resurrection at the last day. JESUS saith unto her, I am the Resurrection, and the Life: he that believeth in Me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: and whosoever liveth and believeth in Me shall never die. Believest thou this? She saith unto Him, Yea, LORD: I believe that Thou art the CHRIST, the SON OF GOD, which should come into the world.

ST. JOHN xi. 33-44.

WHEN JESUS therefore saw her weeping, and the Jews also weeping which came with her, He groaned in the spirit, and was troubled, and said, Where have ye laid him? They said unto Him, LORD, come and see. JESUS wept. Then said the Jews, Behold how He loved him! And some of them said, Could not this Man, which opened the eyes of the blind, have caused that even this man

should not have died? JESUS therefore again groaning in Himself cometh to the grave. It was a cave, and a stone lay upon it. JESUS said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that. was dead, saith unto Him, LORD, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days. JESUS saith unto her, Said I not unto thee, that, if thou wouldest believe, thou shouldest see the glory of GOD? Then they took away the stone from the place where the dead was laid. And Jesus lifted up His eyes, and said, FATHER, I thank Thee that Thou hast heard Me. And I knew that Thou hearest Me always: but because of the people which stand by I said it, that they may believe that Thou hast sent Me. And when He thus had spoken, He cried with a loud voice, Lazarus, come forth. And he that was dead came forth, bound hand and foot with graveclothes: and his face was bound about with a napkin. Jesus saith JESUS unto them, Loose him, and let him go.

ST. JOHN xiii. 1-17.

Now before the feast of the passover, when JESUS knew that His hour was come that He should depart out of this world unto the FATHER, having loved His own which were in the world, He loved them unto the end. And supper being ended, the devil having now put into the heart of Judas Iscariot, Simon's son, to betray Him; JESUS knowing that the FATHER had given all things into His hands, and that He was come from GOD, and went to GOD; He riseth from supper, and laid aside His garments; and took a towel, and girded Himself. After that He poureth

water into a bason, and began to wash the disciples' feet, and to wipe them with the towel wherewith He was girded. Then cometh He to Simon Peter and Peter saith unto Him, LORD, dost Thou wash my feet? JESUS answered and said unto him, What I do thou knowest not now; but thou shalt know hereafter. Peter saith unto Him, Thou shalt never wash my feet. JESUS answered him, If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with Me. Simon Peter saith unto Him, LORD, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head. JESUS saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all. For He knew who should betray Him; therefore said He, Ye are not all clean. So after He had washed their feet, and had taken His garments, and was set down again, He said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you? Ye call Me Master and LORD and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your LORD and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another's feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.

ST. JOHN xiv. 1-6.

LET not your heart be troubled: ye believe in GOD, believe also in Me. In My FATHER'S house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you.
