N the Beginning of the Winter of 1763, IN when the Parliament was about to meet for the firft Time after the Conclufion of a long War, when the Cultivation of the Arts of Peace had been recommended from the Throne, and the Attention of the Legislature would be naturally turned upon the Redress of Grievances, and the Establishment of public Oeconomy, I felt an Inclination to be prefent at the Deliberations of fo august an Affembly, at fo critical a Time, and on Subjects fo Interesting and Important. I therefore attended in the Houfe of Commons, from its first fitting till the Recess at Christmas, without Intermiffion, except one Day, when a Breach of Privilege was complained of, by a Member whofe Letter had been charged by an Officer of the Poft-Office, being that Day confined by Indifpofition: after the Recefs, other Avocations rendered Attendance irregular. my |
