passed, turn into the first road on the left. In a few minutes some cross roads are reached. Here turn to the right and pass some cottages, then left through an iron gate, and very soon pass. through a wicket gate, shortly entering a lane close to a bridge over the Caseg river. Do not cross the bridge, but take a middle track through a little metal swing gate, and avoiding a fork to the left, reach another lane. Cross this lane and continue up the valley, a short distance to the left of the Caseg, and finally climb the mountain. from some sheep pens, which are close to the stream. There is a hard climb up the face of the mountain, but it is impossible to miss your way.

PATH B.

A shorter ascent is, after passing the bridge over the Caseg river, to go through the little metal swing gate, and on reaching the lane, instead of crossing it, turn to the right along it. Take the first turn to the left after crossing the Caseg and reach some houses, where turn again to the left and cross a little stream. Follow the road, which passes through a gate and presently joins a path leading towards another gate and straight on to the hill in front. The path in some places is very indistinct and

very wet but

is easily found. Upon reaching the hill (which you have seen in front for a long time) bend to

the right along its lower slopes and go far up the valley of the Llafar. After passing some mines, ascend gradually and strike the ridge where Yr Elen (a big mountain to the left) joins Llewelyn. Then climb up the face of the mountain over the stones to the cairn on Llewelyn.

PATH C.

The most direct route to Carnedd Dafydd from Bethesda is, to go straight along the road over the Caseg river until the Llafar stream is crossed. Then go down the road which turns off to the left and leads to a farm. Here go over a gate on the right, and up towards some rocks in the distance, where a path running on the left of the ridge will be seen. Proceed as straight as the bogs will allow along this path, which leads direct to the summit.

Route 4. From Ogwen Road.

One of the nicest routes is to go by the Ogwen break, from Bethesda station to Tynymaes--a village a little distance from the 32nd milestone. Here climb the hill on the right of the Berthau stream. Find a mountain road about half way up, turn to the right, and ascend on the left of a wall which leads towards Braich-du. Here turn left for Carnedd Dafydd.

For Carnedd Llewelyn keep on past the cairn and after a time along Bwlch Cyfrw-drum. (The Saddle) towards the cairn at Llewelyn. Route 5. From Conway Valley, Porth. lwyd Falls, Talycafn and Llanbedr. Time 4 hours.

From the Conway Valley for Carnedd Llewelyn drive to Porthlwyd Bridge and reach Porthlwyd Fall. Then turn into the path which runs on above the fall, passing close to the right of a cottage, along a lane, and straight on by a path crossing a road and going straight on to the hill in front. Then pass a chapel, bend to the left over a slope of the hill, turn to the right, and after a while reach a road and turn to the left up it. After a short walk cross a bridge over the Porthlwyd stream, near which the road runs towards Craig Eigiav; the road ends some distance farther on at a slate quarry. Follow a path for some way, but keep bending a little to the right; cross a stream, ascend the hillside, pass a pretty little fall on the right hand, and still ascend. Scale the higher ridge on the right front, and then make for a point a little to the right of a trio of rocky summits. When the ridge is reached join the track from Aber and Llanfairfechan and climb to the cairn on Carnedd Llewelyn.

Route 6. From Llanfairfechan.

Time 4 hours.

Reach Carreg Fawr (Llanfairfechan Hill) as described under that head. Keep to the right of the summit (due south) and go straight on until you reach the ridge of Y Orsedd (where there is a well-marked track) and from which you see Llyn-y-Afon down below on your right. From here follow the path which leads nearly to the summit of Drum, where you will find a wire fence leading to Foel Fras, and then follow the path as directed in Path B from Aber where the two routes join.

Route 7. From Penmaenmawr.

Reach the Druids' Circle, and then bear straight across the low land to an opening in the hills at the extreme end of Foel Llwyd. A wall will be seen running up the hill which will lead towards the Ddevfaen road where an erect stone of huge proportions is seen. Ascend the hill

by the stone wall until you come to a wire fence, and continue your ascent by the side of this until Drosgl is reached and Llyn-y-Afon is seen below on the right. Here turn left along the ridge to Drum and reach Foel Fras and Llewelyn by the route described in the Aber ascent, Path B.
