This building physically extends the University's Thaw Hall. It provides. for research in the physical sciences, space-related engineering experiments, materials, plasma physics, physics of the upper atmosphere, and technology transfer. Thirty-two predoctoral trainees, studying and doing research in these and related areas at the University, have received doctoral degrees.

This building is part of the Forrestal Research Center, and provides the University with unique capability to perform rocket propulsion research. Research studies include solid propellant ignition, liquid and metal combustion processes, combustion instability, and fundamentals of plasma, nuclear, and electric propulsion. Forty-five predoctoral trainees, involved in this and similar research in the University, have been awarded doctoral degrees.

The building provides for photographic planetary research activities, including a Westem Hemisphere repository of planetary information. The facilities accommodate scientists and qualified graduate students in their studies, comparisons, and interpretation of planetary photographs from many different observatories, as well as supporting an extensive lunar mapping program.

This building accommodates most of the space-related research conducted on campus, special activation analysis facilities, as well as links with the nearby data processing center and radiation sources. The research in process includes lunar surface analysis, waste disposal in space, plasma acceleration and heat transfer, and work on lasers and cosmic rays. Forty-seven predoctoral trainees, supported in this and similar space-related research at the University, have been awarded doctoral degrees.

This is the University's center of activities in space and related sciences, the institute of fluid dynamics, research groups in astronomy and physics, and is connected to the computer science center. The center promotes maximum cross-fertilization of research activities among several disciplines. Other work includes behavioral research, atomic forces, gravitational radiation and application of computers to space-related problems. Twenty doctoral degrees have been awarded for research in these and related areas.
