The committee further reported four commissions from the Presbytery of New Brunswick, two from Watertown, one from Newcastle, and one from Northumberland, as wanting the date of the year of the appointment: Also, one commission from Newcastle and one from Rochester, as wanting the signature of the Moderator: and a commission from Grand River for a member of a Standing Committee, instead of a Ruling Elder. The committee also reported, that the Rev. John M'Crea, of the Presbytery of Cleaveland, has informed them that he has lost his commission.

Mr. Jacob Green, Mr. Patton, and Mr. A. Platt were appointed a committee of elections, and the informal commissions were referred to them. The Assembly had a recess until 4 o'clock this afternoon.

THURSDAY, 4 o'clock, P. M. After the recess the Assembly met. The committee of elections reported that they had received satisfactory evidence of the regular appointment as commissioners of the persons whose commissions had been referred to them. With respect to the case of the Standing Committee-man from Grand River Presbytery, they decline expressing any opinion as to the constitutional question of the right of such to a seat in the Assembly.

The Assembly proceeded to consider the case of the person denominated "standing committee" in the commission: and after considerable discussion, it was resolved that the member be received, and enrolled among the list of members.

The Assembly proceeded to the election of a Moderator, when the Rev. NATHAN S. S. BEMAN, D.D. was elected.

FRIDAY, May 20th, 9 o'clock, A.M. The Assembly met and was constituted with prayer.

The minutes of the last session were read.

The committee of commissions reported the following additional members, who appeared and took their seats, viz: Rev. William S. White, and Mr. William I. Dupuy ruling elder from the Presbytery of West Hanover; Rev. William Nesbit from the Presbytery of Hartford; Rev. Thomas Hunt from the Presbytery of Steubenville; Rev. James Richards, D.D. from the Presbytery of Čayuga; Rev. Francis Herron, D.D. from the Presbytery of Ohio; Rev. David H. Riddle from the Presbytery of Winchester; Rev. John Witherspoon from the Presbytery of Orange; Rev. Cyrus L. Watson from the Presbytery of Illinois; Rev. Daniel Deruelle from the Presbytery of Susquehanna; Mr. William Phillips, a ruling elder from the Presbytery of Hudson; William Montgomery, a ruling elder, from the Presbytery of Northumberland; and Rev. Samuel Helfenstein from the German Reformed Synod.

At the call of the roll, the Stated Clerk furnished the members of the Assembly with the printed minutes of the last Assembly.

The Stated Clerk, agreeably to a standing rule, presented a docket of business, which was read.

Mr. Thurbur had leave of absence.

Dr. Richards, Mr. Swift, Mr. Yale, Mr. Witherspoon, Mr. Patton, Mr. D. Thurston, and Mr. F. L. Robbins, Ministers, and Mr. Tracy, Mr. W. Anderson, Mr. Taylor, and Mr. Tunis, Elders, were appointed a committee of bills and overtures, to meet immediately after the rising of the Assembly this morning, and afterwards on their own adjournments.

Dr. Lansing, Dr. Fisk, Mr. D. W. Lathrop, Mr. Ross, and Mr. Bacon, Ministers, and Mr. A. Platt, Mr. Tomlinson, and Mr. W. S. Vernon, Elders, were appointed a judicial committee.

Mr. Auchincloss, Mr. Parsons, and Mr. Napier were appointed a committee to receive an account of the miles travelled by the commissioners to the Assembly, and to make an apportionment of the Commissioners' fund, agreeably to a standing rule on the subject.

Resolved that it be the order of the day for Monday next, to receive from the Presbyteries and Corresponding bodies, written accounts of the state of religion within their bounds. Mr. Eddy, Dr. Matthews, Dr. Spring, Mr. Aiken, and Mr. Root were appointed a committee to take notes, and prepare a narrative of the state of religion.

Dr. M'Dowell, Dr. Spring, and Mr. Talmage were appointed a committee to make arrangements for the religious services of Wednesday next; which, agreeably to a standing rule, is to be devoted to religious exercises.

Resolved that Dr. Miller, Mr. S. Steel, Mr. Kirk, Mr. Napier, and Mr. Lowes be a committee to consider whether it is expedient that the Assembly, as such, should celebrate the ordinance of the Lord's Supper, during their sessions; and if so when; and to report as soon as practicable.

The Permanent Clerk informed the Assembly that there have been put into his hands the following papers, viz. Complaint of the minority of the Presbytery of Philadelphia, against a reference by said Presbytery of the case of the Rev. Albert Barnes;" and, "The case of the Rev. Horace Belknap, referred to the General Assembly by the Presbytery of Harmony." These cases were referred to the Judicial Committee.

The Rev. Joseph M'Carrell and Mr. John Forsyth, appeared in the Assembly as Commissioners from the Associate Reformed Synod of New York, and presented a memorial from said Synod, urging a claim to the library and certain funds, transferred by the General Synod of the Associate Re

formed Church, at the time they dissolved, to the General Assembly, and now in possession of the Theological Seminary at Princeton.

This memorial was referred to Dr. Snodgrass, Mr. Campbell, Dr. Fisk, Mr. Breckenridge, Mr. S. Boyd, Mr. Elliot, and Dr. Woodhull.

Nominations were made for delegates to attend the several Ecclesiastical Bodies holding correspondence with the General Assembly.

The Rev. Isaac Lewis appeared in the Assembly and made application in behalf of the Evangelical Consociation of Rhode Island, for a correspondence with the General Assembly, on the same terms with the other Congregational Bodies of New England, in correspondence with this body.

This subject was referred to Dr. Miller, Mr. Squier, and Mr. Armstrong. The Permanent Clerk reported that there had been put into his hands a complaint from Thomas Bradford, Jr. Esq. against certain proceedings of the Presbytery of Philadelphia in relation to the Rev. Albert Barnes. This complaint was referred to the Judicial Committee. Adjourned till this afternoon at 4 o'clock. Concluded with prayer.

Raymond, a ruling elder from the Presbytery of North River, and Mr. Francis G. Bailey a ruling elder from the Presbytery of Ohio.

The Assembly proceeded to the election of delegates to the Corresponding Bodies. The ballots were received and committed to Mr. Foote, Mr. Patton, and Mr. Tracy, to count them, and report the result to the Assembly.

The Permanent Clerk reported that there had been put into his hands the following papers, viz. "A protest of the minority against the decision of the majority of the session of the 1st Presbyterian Church of the city of New Orleans;" "A complaint by the minority of the Presbytery of Philadelphia, against the proceedings of the said Presbytery in the case of the Rev. Albert Barnes;" "A complaint of the minority of the Synod of Kentucky against the proceedings of said Synod in the case of Dr. A. Smith;" and A complaint of a minority of the Synod of Kentucky, against the proceedings of said Synod in the case of Mr. B. H. Hobbs, a ruling elder.". These cases were referred to the Judicial Committee.

The committee of Overtures reported Overtures Nos. 1, 2, and 3, which were put on the docket.
