The Author's Preface.

THE following Letters were originally written, without any view of publication, and for the individual satisfaction of a respectable Lady, and a valuable friend, who has long enjoyed the happiness of having discovered, and of having embraced the truths of the Catholic religion. The various subjects, to which they refer, were proposed to her consideration, in a series of questions, by a Clergyman of the Established Church; and those questions will be found, at the head of each respective letter, in the exact form, and in the precise words of the original author.

It is, perhaps, unnecessary for me to remark, that the object of this Gentleman's conduct, was to awaken in a mind, naturally unsuspecting and candid, doubts, on the subject of the religion, into which she had passed; and, if possible, to lead her back to the communion of the Protestant Church.
