MINSHALL, Ohio BEN REIFEL, South Dakota DEPARTMENTS OF STATE, JUSTICE, AND COMMERCE, TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 17, 1970. Mr. ROONEY. Gentlemen, the committee will please come to order. This morning we shall commence consideration of the budget requests for fiscal year 1971 for the items funded in this bill which are set forth at page II of the committee print. They are as follows: $452,534,000 for the Department of State, $1,127,510,000 for the Department of Justice, $1,006,920,000 for the Department of Commerce, $134,341,600 for the Judiciary, and $522,978,400 for the related agencies. The total of these requests is the sum of $3,244,284,000. The amount appropriated to date for fiscal year 1970, the current year, for these activities, is the sum of $2,532,868,700. The increase requested is $711,415,300 over the total appropriated to date for the fiscal year 1970. The first of the items to which we shall direct our attention are the amounts requested for the Federal judiciary. THE JUDICIARY Mr. ROONEY. The total request for the Federal judiciary for fiscal year 1971 is in the amount $134,341,600, as I previously stated. This request is an increase of $7,403,700 over the 1970 current year appropriations adjusted to include proposed supplementals for pay costs, and is $13,315,400 over the amount appropriated to date for the current fiscal year. Page II of the justification indicates a request of 7,002 permanent positions, which would be an increase of 103 positions for the judiciary. We shall at this point in the record insert pages I, II, and III of the justifications. (The pages follow :) (1) 1 |
