The subcommittee was called to order by Hon. Charles L. McNary, at 2 o'clock p. m.

Present: Senators McNary (chairman), Keyes, Nye, Norbeck, Dickinson, Kendrick, Copeland, Russell, Capper, and Smith. Senator McNARY. The committee will come to order.

I have requested the appearance and attendance of Mr. Dunlap, the Assistant Secretary of Agriculture, and Mr. Jump, the Budget officer of the Agricultural Department, to consider some items in the bill to which my attention has been directed.

On my own initiative, I stated to the chairman of the Appropriations Committee, that in my judgment we did not need any public hearings. It may develop later that we do, but at the present time, I have asked the Assistant Secretary of Agriculture, Mr. Dunlap, to present to the subcommittee such items as in his mind should receive the attention of the subcommittee.

STATEMENT OF HON. R. W. DUNLAP, ASSISTANT SECRETARY OF AGRICULTURE AND W. A. JUMP, BUDGET OFFICER

Mr. DUNLAP. I would like to submit for the record a statement of the appropriations for the department for the years 1932, 1933, and the Budget estimates for 1934, and the House bill for 1934. I will pass a copy of this table to each of the Senators. (The statement above referred to is as follows:)
