PREFACE.

THIS is essentially a work for the book-hunter. In it I have endeavoured to point clearly and concisely to those classes of books which are now but little thought of, but which should rise in value in the near future, and also to those books of present value which, though of mean appearance, are likely to be met with on the stalls of the dealers. The principles upon which books of all kinds derive their value and importance are also stated and discussed. In each of these respects the work is, so far as I am aware, unique.
