Redesignation Table

In 1984, primarily as a result of the passage of the Shipping Act of 1984 (46 U.S.C. App. 1701-1720), the CFR parts including the regulations of the Federal Maritime Commission were revised and the numbers redesignated, while new subchapters were created and finalized as follows (with new part numbers):

Subchapter A-General and Administrative Provisions [Parts 500-505] at 49 FR 44362, Nov. 6, 1984.

Subchapter B-Regulations Affecting Ocean Freight Forwarders, Terminal Operations and Passenger Vessels [Parts 510-540] at 49 FR 36296 and 36303, Sept. 14, 1984.

Subchapter C-Regulations Affecting Maritime Carriers and Related Activities in Domestic Offshore Commerce [Parts 550-569] at 49 FR 38836, Oct. 1, 1984. Subchapter D-Regulations Affecting Maritime Carriers and Related Activities in Foreign Commerce [Parts 572-587] at 49 FR 36856, Sept. 20, 1984 and 49 FR 45320, 45364 and 45397, Nov. 15, 1984. [See new Parts 572 (Agreements), 580, (Tariffs) and 587 (Actions to address conditions unduly impairing access of U.S. flag vessels to ocean trade between foreign ports) for major changes required by the Shipping Act of 1984 in the Commissions's regulation of foreign commerce.] In 1984, the Federal Maritime Commission also discontinued utilization of the “General Order” system of designating its regulations. For the convenience of the user, the following table shows the relationship of the old CFR part (and where appropriate, section) numbers (and obsolete General Order [G.O.] numbers) to the new CFR part (and section) numbers:
