sistance offered by the United States under cooperative agreements for exchange of information, gifts of libraries of Commission publications, and training of numerous students in radioisotope techniques has helped other countries to develop their use of isotopes; we can feel doubly gratified that our moderate assistance has redounded also to our own benefit.

Publication of this volume by the Atomic Energy Commission should go far toward bringing fully to public awareness the ever increasing influence of radioisotope technology in so many facets of our daily lives. The in

genuity being brought to bear in developing new applications and the ways in which these may enrich and benefit humanity will be apparent. It will also be clear that-with full recognition of the present contributions of the atom to our welfare and economy-the stage has merely been set for an era of applied nuclear science in which the stellar role will be played by the versatile radioisotope.
