PROTECTION AND DEVELOPMENT OF LOWER COLORADO

RIVER BASIN

COMMITTEE ON IRRIGATION AND RECLAMATION,

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,
Friday, March 14, 1924.

The committee met at 10 o'clock a. m., Hon. Addison T. Smith (chairman) presiding.

The CHAIRMAN. We will resume consideration of the Swing-Johnson bill.

I believe Mr. Carr desires to resume his testimony..

Mr. SWING, Mr. Chairman, I thought I would ask Mr. Yager to testify first, if that meets with your views.

The CHAIRMAN. Very well.

TESTIMONY OF THOMAS C. YAGER, ATTORNEY COACHELLA VALLEY COUNTY WATER DISTRICT, COACHELLA, RIVERSIDE COUNTY, CALIF.

(The witness was duly sworn by the chairman.)

Mr. YAGER. Mr. Chairman. I am here for the Coachella Valley county water district, a public organization, with its territorial limits including most of the Coachella Valley watershed.

Mr. RAKER. Mr. Yager, will you suspend for just one moment? Mr. YAGER. Yes, sir.

Mr. RAKER. Mr. Chairman, so that the record may be complete and so that there will be no doubt about it I was readnig over last night the testimony of Mr. Rose; and I found in his testimony, along about the first of it, that upon the request of Mr. Leatherwood and the suggestion of Mr. Swing and the chairman, Mr. Rose agreed at that time to furnish a complete statement of the expenditures made by the Imperial irrigation district in connection with the trip of Members of Congress to that district.

Mr. SWING. I will say this: That I have telegraphed Mr. Rose to send me a complete list of all of the items of expenditures of the district, over the signature of their secretary.

Mr. RAKER. The reason I asked that is that I thought Mr. Rose then agreed to furnish a complete record of those expenditures.

The CHAIRMAN. We had that matter before the committee at its last meeting, and the chairman was instructed to wire Mr. Rose to send the statement; and I telegraphed him accordingly and am awaiting his response.

Mr. SwING. Well, Mr. Chairman, the information that he will furnish will have to come by mail; it will be a list of items―

The CHAIRMAN (interposing). Well, there is no disposition on the part of any member of the committee, so far as I know, to ask that it be forwarded by telegraph.
