The presentation will be made by the distinguished Director, Dr. James A. Shannon. TRIBUTE TO DR. SHANNON Speaking for myself and I am sure for this subcommittee, and I believe for the Congress and the country, we are acutely distressed to realize that this may be your last appearance before us in your capacity as Director of the National Institutes of Health. This grieves us deeply. Finding a successor for you will be no easy job. I am sure because of the size of your shoes they are going to be very, very difficult, if not impossible, to fill. It would be my hope that you would go on in your present capacity. I personally, as chairman of this subcommittee have tried to prevail upon you to change your mind about retirement and I don't know whether I did or not.
