The subcommittee met at 9:30 a.m., pursuant to call, at 1350 Northwest 14th Street, Miami, Fla., Hon. William D. Ford, chairman, presiding.

Representative William D. Ford (Michigan) Chairman of the Special Hearing Subcommittee No. 2 of the House Education and Labor Committee announced today that public hearings would be held in the Dade County Health Department Auditorium, 1350 N. W. 14th St., Miami, Florida on Monday, April 26 beginning at 9:30a.m. on the national emphasis programs-Headstart and Legal Servicesauthorized by the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964.

The hearings are being conducted in connection with the Committee's oversight responsibility for administration and execution of the Economic Opportunity Act and in connection with its consideration of H.R. 40 and H.R. 6394 which call for the extension of the Economic Opportunity Act beyond its present expiration date of June 30, 1971. The Committee plans to receive testimony at the public hearing from administrators, program instructors, teachers and professionals directly concerned with the programs as well as members of the general public.

A BILL

Authorizing the appropriation of funds to carry on programs under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 for five additional years.

1 Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representa2 tives of the United States of America in Congress assembled, 3 That this Act may be cited as the "Economic Opportunity 4 Extension Act, 1971".

5 SEC. 2. For the purpose of carrying out the Economic 6 Opportunity Act of 1964, there are hereby authorized to be 7 appropriated $2,525,050,000 for the fiscal year 1972, 8 $2,777,555,000 for the fiscal year 1973, $3,055,310,500 for 9 the fiscal year 1974, $3,360,841,550 for the fiscal year 10 1975, and $3,696,925,705 for the fiscal year 1976.
