Ezk. 36:26 A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh.

Rom. 2: 28 For he is not a Jew, which is one outwardly; neither is that circumcision, which is outward in the flesh: 29 But he is a Jew which is one inwardly; and circumcision is that of the heart, in the spirit, and not in the letter; whose praise is not of men, but of God.

2 Cor. 5: 17 Therefore, if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

Gal. 5:24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh, with the affections and lusts.

Jn. 3:6 That which is born of the flesh, is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit, is spirit.

499. Divine agency in regeneration and sanctification.

Dt. 30:6 And the LORD thy God will circumcise thy heart, and the heart of thy seed, to love the LORD thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, that thou mayest live.

Ps. 51: 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me.

119:32 I will run the way of thy commandments, when thou shalt enlarge my heart.

Jer. 24:7 And I will give them an heart to know me, that I am the LORD: and they shall be my people, and I will be their God: for they shall return unto me with their whole heart.

500. Particular holy exercises the gift of God.

Ac. 5:31 Him hath God exalted with his right hand ♪ be a Prince and a Savior, for to give repentance to Israel, ane for giveness of sins.

Rom. 5:5 And hope maketh not ashamed: because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

12:3 For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.

Ep. 2:8 For by grace are ye saved, through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God.

2 Tim. 2:25 In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth.

501. Saints as dependent on the Spirit as sinners for holy affections.

Ps. 51: 10 Create in me a clean heart, O God; and renew a right spirit within me. 11 Cast me not away from thy presence; and take not thy Holy Spirit from me. 12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation; and uphold me with thy free Spirit. 13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways; and sinners shall be converted unto thee.

1 Cor. 15: 10 But by the grace of God. I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me, was not in vain ; but I labored more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.

502. Regeneration includes effectual calling.

Ac. 2:39 For the promise is unto you, and to your children, and to all that are afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.

Rom. 1:6 Among whom are ye also the called of Jesus Christ: 7 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you, and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ.

503. Regeneration brings out of darkness into light.

Ps. 25: 14 The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

Pr. 1:7 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.

16:23 The heart of the wise teacheth his mouth and addeth learning to his lips.

28:5 Evil men understand not judgment: but they that seck the LORD understand all things.

Ec. 8:5 Whoso keepeth the commandment shall feel no evil thing and a wise man's heart discerneth both time and judgment.

Dan. 12:10 Many shall be purified, and made white, and tried; but the wicked shall do wickedly: and none of the wicked shall understand; but the wise shall understand.
