428. Patience required.
Ps. 37:1 Fret not thyself because of evil doers, neither be thou envious against the workers of iniquity. 7 Rest in the LORD, and wait patiently for him: fret not thyself because of him who prospereth in his way, because of the man who bringeth wicked devices to pass.
Lk. 21:19 In your patience possess ye your souls.
Rom. 2:7 To them who by patient continuance in well-doing, seek for glory, and honor, and immortality; eternal life. 12:12 Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation: continuing instant in prayer.

429. A peaceable, mild, and gentle spirit required, encouraged, and exemplified.
Ps. 34: 14 Depart from evil, and do good; seek peace, pursue it.
Pr. 15:1 A soft answer turneth away wrath: but grievous words stir up anger.
Jer. 29:7 And seek the peace of the city whither I have caused you to be carried away captives, and pray unto the LORD for it: for in the peace thereof shall ye have peace.
Zec. 8:19 Love the truth and peace.
Mat. 5:9 Blessed are the peace-makers: for they shall be called the children of God.

430. False peace-makers.
Jer. 6:14 They have healed also the hurt of the daughter of my people slightly, saying, Peace, peace; when there is no peace.
Ezk. 13:10 Because, even because they have seduced my people, saying, Peace; and there was no peace; and one built up a wall, and lo, others daubed it with untempered mortar : 11 Say unto them which daub it with untempered mortar, that it shall fall: there shall be an overflowing shower; and ye, O great hailstones, shall fall; and a stormy wind shall rend it.
431. Constant moral perfection required.
Mat. 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.
2 Cor. 7:1 Having therefore these promises, dearly beloved,

let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

432. The appellation, perfect, applied to saints.
Gen. 6:9 These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man, and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.
Job 1:1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and that man was perfect and upright, and one that feared God, and eschewed evil. 8 And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? Job 2:3.
Ps. 37:37 Mark the perfect man, and behold the upright: for the end of that man is peace.
Pr. 2:21 For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it.
11:5 The righteousness of the perfect shall direct his way: but the wicked shall fall by his own wickedness.
1 Cor. 2:6 Howbeit, we speak wisdom among them that are perfect: yet not the wisdom of this world, nor of the princes of this world, that come to nought.
Ph. 3:15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
433. Saints' perfection an object of divine complacency.
Gen. 5:24 And Enoch walked with God, and he was not: for God took him.
Jos. 14:14 Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day; because that he wholly followed the LORD God of Israel.

Ps. 11:7 For the righteous LORD loveth righteousness; his countenance doth behold the upright.
