Penalty of God's Law-Love to God.

2 Pet. 3:11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye be to in all holy conversation and godliness, 12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God.

265. Penalty of the law of God.

Gen. 2:17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.

Ezk. 18:4 The soul that sinneth, it shall die.

33: 11 Say unto them, As I live, saith the Lord GOD, I have no pleasure in the death of the wicked; but that the wicked turn from his way and live: turn ye, turn ye from your evil ways; for why will ye die, O house of Israel ?

Dt. 6:5 Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.

11:1 Thou shalt love the Lord thy God, and keep his charge, and his statutes, and his judgments, and his commandments, always.

30:15 See, I have set before thee this day life and good, and death and evil; 16 In that I command thee this day to love the LORD thy God, to walk in his ways, and to keep his commandments, and his statutes, and his judgments, that thou mayest live and multiply.

Love to God.

Jos. 22:5 But take diligent heed to do the commandment and the law, which Moses the servant of the LORD charged you, to love the LORD your God, and to walk in all his ways, and to keep his commandments, and to cleave unto him, and to serve him with all your heart, and with all your soul.

Ex. 20:6 And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me, and keep my commandments.

Dt. 7:9 Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations.

11:13 And it shall come to pass, if ye shall hearken diligently unto my commandments which I command you this day, to love the LORD your God, and to serve him with all your heart and with all your soul, 14 That I will give you the rain of your land in his due season, the first rain and the latter rain, that thou mayest gather in thy corn, and thy wine, and thine oil. 15 And I will send grass in thy fields for thy cattle, that thou mayest eat and be full.

Ps. 145:20 The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.

Pr. 8:17 I love them that love me: and those that seek me early shall find me.

Fear of God.

Rom. 8:28 And we know that all things work together for good, to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.

1 Cor. 2:9 But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.

Jam. 1:12 Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.

267. The fear of God required and encouraged.

Dt. 6:24 And the LORD commanded us to do all these statutes, to fear the LORD our God, for our good always, that he might preserve us alive, as it is at this day.

10: 12 And now, Israel, what doth the LORD thy God require of thee but to fear the LORD thy God, to walk in all his ways, and to love him, and to serve the LORD thy God with all thine heart and with all thy soul, 13 To keep the commandments of the LORD, and his statutes, which I command thee this day for thy good? 20 Thou shalt fear the LORD thy God; him shalt thou serve, and to him shalt thou cleave, and swear by his name.

Jos. 24: 14 Now therefore, fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth.

2 K. 17:35 Ye shall not fear other gods, nor bow yourselves to them, nor serve them, nor sacrifice to them: 36 But the LORD, who brought you up out of the land of Egypt with great power and a stretched-out arm, him shall ye fear, and him shall ye worship, and to him shall ye do sacrifice.

Ps. 33:8 Let all the earth fear the Lord: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him.

89:7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.

Pr. 23:17 Let not thine heart envy sinners: but be thou in the fear of the LORD all the day long.

Ec. 12:13 Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.

Is. 8:13 Sanctify the Lord of hosts himself; and let him be your fear, and let him be your dread.

Fear of God.

Lk. 12:5 I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him which after he hath killed, hath power to cast into hell; yea I say unto you, Fear him.

Encouraged.

Job 28:28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the LORD, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.

Ps. 25: 12 What man is he that feareth the LORD? him shall he teach in the way that he shall choose. 13 His sou. shall dwell at ease; and his seed shall inherit the earth. 14 The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.

31:19 Oh how great is thy goodness, which thou hast laid up for them that fear thee; which thou hast wrought for them that trust in thee before the sons of men! 20 Thou shalt hide them in the secret of thy presence from the pride of man: thou shalt keep them secretly in a pavilion from the strife of tongues.

33:18 Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy; 19 To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.

34:7 The angel of the LORD encampeth round about them that fear him, and delivereth them. 8 O taste and see that the LORD is good: blessed is the man that trusteth in him. 9 O fear the LORD, ye his saints; for there is no want to them that fear him.

103:11 For as the heaven is high above the earth, so great is his mercy toward them that fear him. 12 As far as the east is from the west, so far hath he removed our transgressions from us. 13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the LORD pitieth them that fear him.

111:5 He hath given meat unto them that fear him : he will ever be mindful of his covenant. 10 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom: a good understanding have all they that do his commandments: his praise endureth for ever Pr. 9:10.

145: 19 He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.

147:11 The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him, in those that hope in his mercy.
