Made known by his Works-A Moral Agent.

Mat. 26:56 Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.

2 Tim. 4:16 At my first answer no man stood with me, but all men forsook me: I pray God that it may not be laid to their charge.

GOD.

201. The First Cause made known by his works.

Ps. 19:1 The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handy-work. 2 Day unto day uttereth speech, and night unto night sheweth knowledge.

58: 11 Verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth.

100:3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Rom. 1:19 Because that which may be known of God, is manifest in them; for God hath shewed it unto them. 20 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without

excuse.

11:36 For of him, and through him, and to him are all things: to whom be glory for ever. Amen.

Heb. 3:4 Every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God. Ps. 9:16.

202. God a moral agent, with true and proper affections.

Gen. 6:6 And it repented the Lord that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.

Ps. 7:11 God is angry with the wicked every day.

103:13 Like as a father pitieth his children, so the Lord pitieth them that fear him.

147:11 The Lord taketh pleasure in them that fear him. Hos. 11:8 How shall I give thee up, Ephraim? how shall I deliver thee, Israel? how shall I make thee as Admah? how shall I set thee as Zeboim? mine heart is turned within me, my repentings are kindled together.

Zep. 3:17 The LORD thy God in the midst of thee is mighty; he will save, he will rejoice over thee with joy: he will rest in his love, he will joy over thee with singing.

Mat. 3:17 This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.

1 Jn. 4:8 God is love.

His chief End-Eternity.

203. God made and governs all things for himself.

Ps. 1067 Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt they remembered not the multitude of thy mercies; but provoked him at the sea, even at the Red sea. 8 Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake, that he might make his mighty power to be known.

Pr. 16:4 The Lord hath made all things for himself: yea, even the wicked for the day of evil.

Is. 43:7 Even every one that is called by my name: for I have created him for my glory, I have formed him ; yea, I have made him.

Ezk. 20:9 I wrought for my name's sake, that it should not be polluted before the heathen.

36:32 Not for your sakes do I this, saith the Lord God, be it known unto you: be ashamed and confounded for your own ways, O house of Israel.

Col. 1:16 All things were created by him, and for him.

Rev. 4:11 Thou art worthy, O Lord, to receive glory, and honor, and power: for thou hast created all things, and for thy pleasure they are and were created. Heb. 2:10. Ep. 1:11, 12. [See Providence, 257.]

GOD'S NATURAL ATTRIBUTES.

Dt. 33:27 The eternal God is thy refuge.

Ps. 90: 2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.

93:2 Thy throne is established of old: thou art from everlasting.

102:27 Thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end. Is. 44:6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his Redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last and besides me there is no God.

57: 15 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy.

Hab. 1:12 Art thou not from everlasting, O LORD my God, mine Holy One?

1 Tim. 1: 17 Now unto the King eternal, immortal, invisible the only wise God, be honor and glory for ever and ever.

Greatness.

1 Tim. 6:15 Which in his times he shall shew, who is the blessed and only Potentate, the King of kings, and Lord of lords; 16 Who only hath immortality.

Rev. 1:8 I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the ending, saith the Lord, which is, and which was, and which is to come, the Almighty. Dan. 12: 7.

205. Incomprehensible greatness and majesty.

1 Ch. 29: 11 Thine, O LORD, is the greatness, and the power, and the glory, and the victory, and the majesty: for all that is in the heaven and in the earth is thine; thine is the kingdom, O LORD, and thou art exalted as head above all. 12 Both riches and honor come of thee, and thou reignest over all; and in thine hand is power and might; and in thine hand it is to make great, and to give strength unto all.

Neh. 9:6 Thou, even thou, art LORD alone; thou hast made heaven, the heaven of heavens, with all their host, the earth, and all things that are therein, the seas, and all that is therein, and thou preservest them all; and the host of heaven worshippeth thee.

Job 11:7 Canst thou by searching find out God? canst thou find out the Almighty unto perfection? 8 It is as high as heaven; what canst thou do? deeper than hell; what canst thou know? 9 The measure thereof is longer than the earth, and broader than the sea.

26:14 Lo, these are parts of his ways; but how little a portion is heard of him? but the thunder of his power who can understand?

36:26 Behold, God is great, and we know him not, neither can the number of his years be searched out.

37:22 With God is terrible majesty. 23 Touching the Almighty, we cannot find him out: he is excellent in power, and in judgment, and in plenty of justice.

Ps. 8:1 O LORD our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth! who hast set thy glory above the heavens.

29:4 The voice of the LORD is powerful; the voice of the LORD is full of majesty.

93:1 The LORD reigneth, he is clothed with majesty; the LORD is clothed with strength, wherewith he hath girded himself. 4 The LORD on high is mightier than the noise of many waters, yea, than the mighty waves of the sea.

Invisibility-Immutability.

104: 1 Bless the LORD, O my soul. O LORD my God, thou art very great; thou art clothed with honor and majesty: 2 Who coverest thyself with light as with a garment: who stretchest out the heavens like a curtain: 3 Who layeth the beams of his chambers in the waters: who maketh the clouds his chariot who walketh upon the wings of the wind: 4 Who maketh his angels spirits; his ministers a flaming fire.

145:3 Great is the Lord, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable.

Is. 40: 17 All nations before him are as nothing, and they are counted to him less than nothing, and vanity. 18 To whom then will ye liken God? or what likeness will ye compare unto him? Dan. 4:35.

206. Invisibility.

Jn. 1:18 No man hath seen God at any time; the only begotten Son, which is in the bosom of the Father, he hath declared him.

4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him, must worhip him in spirit and in truth.

Heb. 11:27 By faith he forsook Egypt, not fearing the wrath of the king: for he endured, as seeing him who is invisible.

207. Immutability.

Num. 23: 19 God is not a man, that he should lie; neither the son of man, that he should repent: hath he said, and shall he not do it? or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good? 1 S. 15:29 And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.

Job 23: 13 He is in one mind, and who can turn him? and what his soul desireth, even that he doeth.

Ps. 102:25 Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: and the heavens are the work of thy hands. 26 They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; as a vesture shalt thou change them, and

Omnipotence-Omniscience and Foreknowledge.

they shall be changed: 27 But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end.

Mal. 3:6 For I am the LORD, I change not; therefore ye sons of Jacob are not consumed.

Heb. 13:8 Jesus Christ the same yesterday, and to-day, and forever.

Jam. 1:17 Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and cometh down from the Father of lights, with whom is no variableness, neither shadow of turning.

208. Omnipotence.

11:17 Saying, We give thee thanks, O Lord God Almighty, which art, and wast, and art to come; because thou hast taken to thee thy great power, and hast reigned.

19:6 The Lord God omnipotent reigneth.

209. Omniscience and foreknowledge.

1 S. 2:3 Talk no more so exceeding proudly; let not arro gancy come out of your mouth: for the LORD is a God of knowledge, and by him actions are weighed.

16:7 The Lord seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. 1 K. 8:39 Then hear thou in heaven thy dwelling-place, and forgive, and do, and give to every man according to his ways, whose heart thou knowest; (for thou, even thou only, knowest the hearts of all the children of men.)

Ch. 28:9 The Lord searcheth all hearts, and understand eth all the imaginations of the thoughts.
