INTRODUCTION TO THE MARINE CORPS MANUAL

0001

PURPOSE

1. The Marine Corps Manual is a Marine Corps publication in which the Commandant of the Marine Corps, by authority of the Secretary of the Navy, prescribes detailed rules and directions for the administration and instruction of personnel of the Marine Corps, based upon, and supplementary to, laws and regulations of higher authority.

0002 SCOPE

1. So far as practicable all administrative regulations for the Marine Corps, whether general or special in character, which are more or less permanent in application and which are issued or are to be issued by authority of the Secretary of the Navy, will be published for inclusion in the Marine Corps Manual.

0003 ORGANIZATION

1. The Marine Corps Manual is published in three volumes. Volume I contains those administrative regulations not related to the administration of supply and disbursing matters. Volume II contains supply regulations. Volume III contains disbursing regulations.

2. The chapters in Volume I of the Marine Corps Manual are numbered in sequence from 1 to 49, inclusive; those in Volume II are numbered from 50 to 74, inclusive; and those in Volume III are numbered from 75 to 99, inclusive. Those chapter numbers not utilized within each volume are omitted. The chapters organic to each volume will be listed in the table of contents to that volume.

Each part or section within a chapter is assigned a block of 50 paragraph numbers. It is therefore possible to identify the various parts within each chapter by reference to the paragraph number and to provide for expansion of parts. For example, Part A of Chapter 7 is assigned paragraph numbers 7000-7049; part B of Chapter 7 is assigned paragraph numbers 7050-7099. Those paragraph numbers not utilized within each part are omitted.

4. The pages will be numbered in a separate series for each chapter. The pages of a chapter will be numbered in sequence with arabic numerals beginning with 1. Each page number will be preceded by the number of the chapter. For example, the tenth page of Chapter 7 is numbered 7-10.

0004 CHANGES

1. Changes will be distributed as soon as they are approved by the Commandant of the Marine Corps and the Secretary of the Navy in the form of advance change letters, which will be filed in the front of the volume to which the changes pertain; the elements being modified will be referenced to the letter. Changes will at the same time be submitted for printing, and printed changes designed for insertion on pagefor-page basis will follow the advance change letter in from two to three months.
