MORNING HYMNS.

I.

CHRIST THE CAPTAIN OF SALVATION.

LORD! Thou hast unclosed mine

eyes:

Thou

hast renewed the spirit of my understanding. Thou hast removed from my heart the seal of forgetfulness and opened afresh all my springs of life.

Awaken my soul, and it shall sing: stir up my spirit, and it shall praise Thee.

What shall be my song all the day long : shall it be aught but thy salvation and glory? For Thou hast redeemed my soul Thou hast broken my bonds in sunder.

Thou hast made me a man of battle against them that held me captive: Thou hast set my place in the host which is called after thy

name.

Thou hast clothed me from head to foot with the armour of light: Thou hast girded my thigh with the sword of the Spirit.

F

Keep me therefore this day, amid the tentfellows of thy tabernacle make me watchful at the post which Thou hast assigned me.

Strengthen my hands for a good fight : give me the victory that overcometh the world.

Grant unto me an earnest of thy promise: a foretaste of the blessedness of the land which Thou hast in store,

Where thy saints shall rest from their labours: and their tabernacles of flesh shall be turned into buildings of glory everlasting.

Sound the trumpet in Zion : mine ear taketh delight in the sound of its voice.

Lift up thy banner, O mighty in battle: mine eye rejoiceth to behold its wavings.

O Christ! help me this day: Thou art the Captain of my salvation.

II.

CHRIST THE INTERCESSOR.

LORD! Thou hast driven away the darkness: Thou hast discomfited and clean scattered the host of night.

Thou hast unveiled thy heavens again : Thou hast brought the sun back from his chamber.

Thou hast raised my body from its helplessness of slumber : Thou hast restored the knowledge to my heart, and the light to mine eyes.

Lift them up, Lord, unto Thee : spread forth before them the spectacle of the glory of thy salvation.

That they may behold the great High Priest in heaven and witness the merciful work of his ministry in thy presence.

O how my soul rejoiceth in the sight: and my spirit mounteth with the wings of an eagle.

Keep silence all ye his people : behold and listen all ye his saints.

For He standeth before the throne: He showeth the sprinkling of his blood.

He presenteth his people: the children whom the Father hath given Him.

He asketh, and they receive: He pleadeth, and they are forgiven.

O Lord, put now my prayers also into thy golden censer: plead for me, Thou that standest to make intercession for thy people.

Thou art not a man that knoweth not my heart

Thou canst be touched with the feeling of mine infirmities.

Thou hast not offered the blood of bulls and goats: Thou hast not taken with Thee earthly fire.

But thine own precious blood hast Thou offered with the fire of thy Holy Spirit of prayer Thou hast entered.

Make my sacrifice acceptable: sanctify the offering of my heart,

Fill my mouth with thy praise: be Thou the song of my heart and lips all day long.

THE DEDICATION OF THE BODY FOR THE

DAY.

LORD! Thou hast raised me from the death of sleep Thou hast awakened me to light and life.

:

Thou hast clothed me again with raiment : Thou hast girded me for the work of another day.

:

Even so raise me anew from the death of sin awake me anew unto life and righteousness. Wash my hands in innocency: and my heart and conscience afresh in the laver of regeneration.

Clothe me with the raiment of righteousness: gird me with the belt of truth.

So send me forth to my labour : so prepare me for the work which Thou hast appointed

me.

Make thy servant diligent this day strong to labour, and of good courage.

Put all my members to thy service: Thine be the lifting up of my head, and the work of my hands.

Quicken mine eye to the beckoning of thy will: and mine ear to the voice of thy com-→ mandments.

So shalt Thou bless my undertakings: and finish the work which hath been begun in thy

name.

Lord! I lay my gift upon thine altar : behold the sacrifice of my body.

IV.

THE PROSPECT OF THE DAY.

O LORD! the night, indeed, is thine how glorious are the works which Thou manifestest therein.

For even amidst the darkness my spirit hath seen thy light: amid the silence it hath heard thy voice.

For Thou didst awaken my remembrance of

Thee upon my bed : and I did meditate on thy

wondrous ways.

I called to mind the days of thy mercy of yore: I stirred up the sounds of thy word within my heart;

And thy glorious majesty shone before me : and the songs of thy praise were loud in my

ear.

O thanks be to Thee for the blessings of the
