ATM INTERCHANGE State Maine Maryland Massachusetts Sharing Within State Mandatory sharing of offpremise facilities by state financial institutions and by federal banks, S&Ls who are headquartered in Maine 1) Sharing between state banks, savings institutions and trust cos. is not regulated 2) S&Ls are permitted to participate w/any financial institution establishing and maintaining terminals Permissive statewide sharing between all financial institutions, (state & federal) banks, S&Ls, mutual savings banks, credit unions and cooperative banks Sharing Between States Foreign banking institutions may operate an electronic terminal in MD, but not conduct a general banking business 1) A CN, ME, NH, RI or VT financial institution may use MU terminals. 2) Any financial institutions w/their main office outside of MU may share or use an MU terminal for certain functions, provided that the terminal was established by an MU institution 3) Any out-of-state financial institution which had established a terminal prior to 12/31/81, may continue to operate it for cash dispensing and travelers cheques and its use is restricted to the customers of the institution Branching Off-premise electronic facilities are not branches. Electronic terminals are not branches 1) Off-premise ATMs are "electronic" branches & may be established w/out complying w/branching laws |
