The Rails America 3-16-1933 PREFACE Pursuant to the act of July 3, 1930 (46 Stat. 1016), entitled "An act to authorize the President to consolidate and coordinate governmental activities affecting war veterans," that part of the work of the Department of the Interior relating to pensions for veterans and the retirement of Government employees was transferred to the Veterans' Administration. Twenty-two volumes of decisions were issued by the Department of the Interior reporting the decisions of the Secretary on pension and retirement cases, covering the period up to the passage of the act of July 3. This compilation continues the publication of pension and civil-service retirement decisions. The cases it contains were prepared in the office of the solicitor for the signature of the administrator and are illustrative of the manifold types of laws which have been enacted from time to time by the Congress for the defenders of our country. It is hoped that the volume may be of value to those persons within and without the Government service who are concerned with the laws governing either veterans or the retirement of Government employees, in indicating the trend being taken in the interpretation of those laws.
