BIBLES AND BIBLICAL WORKS FOR PRESENTATION.
BAGSTER'S POLYGLOT BIBLES.

THE elegant manner in which these well-known Books are got up, renders them especially eligible As PRESENTATION COPIES OF THE SACRED SCRIPTURES. Bound in Bagster's peculiar style of flexible Turkey morocco, of durable beauty, and enriched with every external adornment, their typographical completeness is enhanced. The miniature Polyglot, or small pocket size, the Foolscap Octavo, pocket size, and the Facsimile Large-Print Edition, all correspond page for page; and in their combinations with the Book of Common-Prayer, Indexes, Concordances, Lexicons, &c., form a variety suited to every requirement. The COMPREHENSIVE FAMILY AND PULPIT BIBLE, containing the largest number of parallel references and illustrative notes ever published, is kept, of various quarto sizes, bound up with Family Registers, in plain and sumptuous bindings. The HEXAPLA is a treasury of the most condensed criticism. It consists of the Greek Text of the New Testament, printed in the largest type, with six standard English translations beneath it, arranged for comparison in parallel columns. Kept in every style of best binding. THE BIBLE OF EVERY LAND, now just completed, is a collection of interesting Memoirs of every Language into which the Bible has been translated, with engraved Specimens, numerous coloured Maps, and a full series of Native Alphabets. THE BLANK PAGED BIBLE, THE BIBLIA ECCLESIÆ POLYGLOTTA, THE LARGE-PRINT CRITICAL GREEK TESTAMENT AND SEPTUAGINT may also be suggested as suitable gifts. See descriptive Catalogues, which are furnished without charge, and sent free by post.

Now ready, the Third Edition,

CHRIST AN EXAMPLE FOR THE YOUNG,

AS EXHIBITED IN THE GOSPEL NARRATIVE OF THE

FOUR EVANGELISTS.

Harmonized and Chronologically Arranged, Illustrated by Fifty-five Engravings, Printed on different Tinted Papers to distinguish the various Periods of our Lord's Ministry, having Picture Definitions and Exercises, and a Map in Pocket. By the Author of "The System of Graduated Simultaneous Instruction." 3rd Edition, 7s. 6d. bound in cloth; 10s. 6d. Morocco; 12s. 6d. elegant Morocc.

"This is not only knowledge made easy, but instruction made easy. Dull is the parent that cannot teach, and very inapt the child that cannot learn, with such helps as are here provided; and dull beyond all dulness the fancy that cannot be kindled by so much striking, touching, pictorial exhibition. The thing is quite a prodigy in its way; we have here geographical notices of the places where the events occurred, illustrated by fifty-five engravings, with picture definitions and exercises, by the author of the system of graduated simultaneous instruction. The lessons in all amount to 100, exhibiting the structure and contents of the four evangelical histories. There is also a class chart for reference, delineating the Gospel narra

[ocr errors]

tives, with every event localized. A history, thus accompanied by geographical notices, with explanations, historical representation, picture definition and exercises, becomes entertaining to a degree, while it is rendered useful by practical lessons, with proofs and illustrations of the doctrine. It is, altogether, a most ingenious performance, leaving, in the deepest shade, everything else of the sort ever hitherto presented. The twenty-eight columns of index exhibit, in a moment, the amazing fulness of the narrative, and the accuracy with which it has been analysed. We have never before seen pictorial power brought to bear so fully and succesfully on the illustration of Divine truth."

Now complete in two Volumes,

The Creasury Harmony of the Four Evangelists,

(1017)

In the Words of the Authorized Version, according to Greswell's "Harmonia Evangelica;" in Parallel Columns from the commencement of the Gospel Narratives to the end of the Second Year of our Lord's Public Ministry; having numerous and carefully selected Scripture Illustrations, Expository Notes from the most approved Commentators, Geographical Notices, and Practical Reflections. Compiled by ROBERT MIMPRISS. Two vols. post 8vo., 21s. bound in cloth, lettered.

These volumes contain matter equal to ten ordinary demy octavo volumes.

"The Scripture Illustrations are pertinent, judicious, and sufficiently ample for all useful purposes. The Expository Notes, from the most approved commentators, are selec tions which must have required great labour, show much discrimination and an extensive and ripe acquaintance with genuine Scripture doctrine and criticism; while the Practical Reflections are clear, pointed, and often searching, fitted to be 'as nails and goads fastened in a sure place. The Geographical Notes are calculated to be eminently useful to the student of the New Testament, who has not opportunity of reference to large and expensive works; and even to those who have, it must be useful, by furnishing at one view what is scattered over many volumes. As in the Expository Notes, so here, there are everywhere evidences of a judicious mind having been employed, and one fami

liar with what is necessary to the full and clear exposition of the sacred page. Under the head Addenda, there are choice accumulations of varied treasures of thought, re. search, history, topography, of almost every thing illus trating manners, customs, opinions, and places of the olden times, necessary for the clear and full perception of the particular instructions and miracles of Christ, and, indeed, of the whole dispensation of the Gospel."

"After a full and minute examination, we can most cordially recommend it to our readers. To Sabbath-school teachers, for whom it is primarily intended, it must be invaluable; and to every one, in whatever department of Christian instruction, it must be of high utility. Ministers of the Gospel will find it no mean auxiliary."
