The aim and object of the publisher, in

entertaining information and innocent amusement, instead of the trivial, and often immoral, publications which are for the most part offered to the notice of RAILWAY READERS. He designs to introduce a class of works at once cheap, valuable, and instructive, not merely to be read on the Railway, and thrown aside at the end of the journey, but such as shall deserve a permanent place on the shelves of the library.

It will thus form an appropriate sequel to the Home and Colonial Library.

country for the early numbers of the Horticultural
Magazine, the publisher begs to state, that it has been
determined to re-issue the whole in Monthly Parts.
This will enable persons to complete their sets who

purchasing the whole in volumes. The first number
of the re-issue was published on the 1st of August.
Those persons, therefore, who have not been able to
get the back numbers they have written for, can now
have them by application to the publisher, or through
any of the London booksellers, the whole work being
now in course of reprinting. A list of the whole of
the treatises published in the work, and the numbers
they appeared in, can be had of all booksellers. The

HANDBOOK COMPLETE. Price 6s. By ROBERT HUNT, Professor of Mechanical Science, Government School of Mines. "Every care has been taken to render this compilation a record worthy of preservation, as giving within a limited space a faithful description of certainly one of the most remarkable events which has ever taken place upon this island, or in the world-the gathering together from the ends of the earth, of the products of human industry, the efforts of human thought."-EXTRACT FROM PREFACE.

"The most instructive guide to the Exhibition while it is open, we have no doubt that this Handbook will become hereafter one of the most popular mementoes and histories of the actual gathering of the nations."-ATHENEUM. "The most complete and popular Guide published. Useful in the Exhibition, and agreeable afterwards as a reminiscence of what was seen in the great year of 1851."-SPECTATOR.

"Let no one imagine that because the Great Exhibition will shortly be closed that the Handbook is not therefore all as a compact and portable reoord of what they have needed; on the contrary, it should be read and retained by

seen exhibited."-LITERARY GAZETTE.

This day is published (Dedicated, by express permission, to H. R. H. Prince Albert), No. 2 of the

Industrial Arts of the Uineteenth

Century:

A Series of Illustrations of the choicest Specimens produced by every nation at the Great Exhibition of

Industry, 1851.

By M. DIGBY WYATT, ARCHITECT.

Part No. 1 contains:-The Amazon, by Kiss of Berlin.—Painted “Lac" Work from Lahore.—Daggers, enriched with Damascening, by Zuloaga, of Madrid.-Specimens of Tunisian Embroidery.

Part No. 2 contains:-The Child Christ (Christ Engel), a Bas-relief, in white Marble, by Reitschel, of Dresden.-A Group of Earthenware Vases, by Mansard, of Voisinlieu, France.-White Wood Cabinet, by Michell Wettli, of Berne.-Pistols, Engraved and Inlaid with Damascene Work, by Zuloaga, of Madrid. Messrs. DAY and SON, Lithographers to the Queen, 17, Gate Street, Lincoln's Inn Fields, have made arrangements by which the objects selected for Illustration will be drawn on stone by first-rate Artists, and will be presented in their proper colours, the aim of the publishers being to furnish a true and lasting memorial of the condition of the industrial arts throughout the world at the present epoch. Believing that it will be the wish of many to preserve the best possible record of this event, the publishers have calculated upon a very extended sale, and have determined to reduce the price to a rate altogether unprecented in the history of lithography.

The work will be in folio, and appear in fortnightly parts. Every number, price 7s. 6d., will contain four fully coloured plates, with descriptions of the objects, and critical and explanatory remarks. The work complete will comprise from 120 to 150 plates.
