PUBLICATION of the Works of American Authors continues to form an important feature in the literature of the day-their popular character and general adaptability to the requirements of our own public being evidenced by the avidity with which unprotected works are pressed into the various cheap series of "Readable Books," "Railway Libraries," &c.; and the readiness with which the publication of new or forthcoming works is undertaken in advance of their appearance on the other side, securing their copyright in this country.

Dr. Gardiner Spring, the well-known and admired author of other Series of American Discourses, has availed himself of the protection now extended, by publishing his new work on the "Glory of Christ," first in this country.-Dr. Murray announces another work under the signature of "Kirwan," embracing his observations on the actual state of Popery in the country through which he travelled last summer, including the capital of the Papal States.-Mr. Curtis, the author of "The Nile Notes," so successful last year in America, has likewise published his new book first in England, under the title of "The Wanderer in Syria."-Dr. Barnes will shortly resume his "Commentaries on the Old Testament" by the publication of his volume on "The Book of Daniel."-The Library of the late Dr. Neander, said to be one of the best theological collections in Germany, has been purchased by the Senate of Rochester University, New York State.

The "Contemporary Corrections" of Shakspere's Plays, contained in Mr. Collier's folio, are to be printed forthwith, and will form a volume of the Publications of "The Shakspere Society" for the present year.-Mr. Peter Cunningham's contributions to the pages of "The Gentleman's Magazine," of the Story of Nell Gwyn and the Sayings of King Charles the Second," has just appeared in a separate form, with a suitable style of printing and binding. The same gentleman has just compiled a Memoir of the late J. M. W. Turner, R.A. which will appear in a few days in a volume on "Turner and his Works," illustrated by examples from his pictures explanatory of his principles of composition, by Mr. John Burnet.

Mr. G. P. R. James, the novelist, has a new work just ready, entitled "Pequinillo."- Mr. Rowcroft, author of "Tales of the Colonies," has nearly ready "Confessions of an Etonian."The Author of "The Bachelor of the Albany" (Mr. Savage) has in the press "Reuben Medicott; or, the Country Man."-Mr. Vizetelly has just published a reprint of a slave memoir that has had an extraordinary sale in America,-it is stated of "ten editions in fourteen days,"-under the title of "Uncle Tom's Cabin."

Messrs. Longman and Co. include in their list of new announcements, the promised papers and Memoir of the late Thomas Moore, to appear under the distinguished editorship of Lord John Russell.-The First Volume of the "New Library Edition of Sir Walter Scott's Novels" is published, and realises in appearance the promises made that it should be the standard and best edition; in every respect it is a handsome volume.-The graphic and amusing "Pictures from St. Petersburgh" translated by Mr. Hardman from the German, will form an early number of "The Traveller's Library." Mr. Dodd, the indefatigable parliamentary guide, announces a new manual significant of the approaching contest, entitled-"Electoral Facts from 1832 to 1852," including, amongst other information, Prevailing Influences, Newspaper Politics, &c. and the Polls for the last twenty years at every place returning a Member for Parliament.
