private friends, or party might think him. Happy would it be for this nation, if a man of his abilities, and integrity; always prefided in the C—t of C—y.

Some Account of a Man now living in great
Splendor, not a Mile from Grofvenor's-
Square.

THERE is not any part of Europe, which

has not experienced, more or less, the confummate villainy of this man; who has been married to as many women as there are letters in the alphabet, and who has paffed under as many names! He has been often in Newgate and more than once tried for his life! He has been an officer in the British Army, and a bully at a B-y Houfe; he has ferved foreign Princes! he has been a popish Prieft! he has robbed male convents of their Treasure, and female convents of the Religeufe. We remember him to have kept a Phaeton and a pair of fine Horses, into which

He frequently invited unwary young men, and there picked their pockets!-his chum was whipt at the carts tail, fome few years fince, and he escaped it, by going abroad! he now drives his poft coach and four! we should be afhamed to blot this paper with such an infamous character, but to caution the unwary; because we are well affured, that he is now looking out for Houfes, and Lands; with a view of making great purchases; and carries about with hin a citizen of fome note, who is fo igno rant, as to ftamp him with the title he affumes; and to pass him off as a man of charafter, rank, and fortune! He now however appears under his REAL NAME.

Of Mrs. LL-d the Deanefs of N-h.

HER great merit in painting (if we may be allowed the expreffion) in worsteds, and filk; is a proof of the ingenuity and craft of her finger; and her being married for love,

at or near the 45th year of her age,

to a young

man; is a proof that all her address; did not center at her fingers end.

Of the celebrated Mr. H-m-e.

THOSE who are defirous of feeing how

this metaphyfical philofopher, is overpowered, are referred to BEATTIES Effay in the nature and immutability of truth. And we will venture to pronounce, that they will neither lament their lofs of time, nor the expence in doing fo.

Of the late Rev. Mr. L-e S―ne.

E profefs to admire the works of this very extraordinary genius, as much, as any man living; and that we laid down our knife and fork and pushed the plate from us, upon the receipt of a letter from a friend, informing us of his death; for though we knew him beft by his works; yet, his death affected us, as for the lofs of an intimate friend. We therefore

therefore do not relate the following anecdote, to stamp his memory with difgrace; but to rouze up thofe, who can contradict it, if fuch there are; and we shall be the first to rejoice, for the honor of human nature, as well as our own private fatisfaction, to fee it effectually overturned,

A Gentleman of dignity in the church, of fenfe, of honor, and of much humanity; affured us, that during the time Mr. Se, was wallowing in the luxuries of life, and expences of THE TOWN. His mother, was a prisoner, for a small debt in the Castle at York! adding, that he would not have repeated fuch a ftory, had it come from lefs authority, than a gentleman whose purfe and activity, had been the principal means of her enlargement!-as this ftory has crept abroad in private conversation, perhaps it is the best way to have it made thus public. Such a circumstance could not have happened, without its being well known at York; and it can

not

not be fuppofed Mr. Se, has not there left; fome friend, who will neglect,

One generous act, his fame to fave, And pluck this ftinging nettle, from his grave."

Of John W

lles, Efq;

of Af-p.

BESIDES the many good things his worthy father did while he lived, he left, when he died; an eldest son, who is an honest, fenfible, worthy man'; and who is almost the only gentleman we know, who is fo well acquainted with the town, and high life; who lives in the country as if he knew no other way of life.

Of I-c H-s B-n, Efq;
Junior.

A Friend of ours, who was intimately ac

quainted with the ingenious father of this thrifty young gentleman; hearing that he was
