Grave care.-Counties may donate money for the location, marking,
care, and maintenance of graves of Confederate dead.
Acknowledgments of written instruments executed by members of the
Armed Forces of the United States; validity.

Administration of estates of members of the Armed Forces listed as
missing in action, captured by the enemy, etc.; termination of guard-
ianship.

Evidence of death of military and naval personnel pursuant to the
Missing Persons Act.

Absentee voting by persons in the Armed Forces of the United States,
the merchant marine, the American Red Cross, and disabled hos-
pitalized veterans, and their wives.

Restoration of right of suffrage to any honorably discharged veteran of
World Wars I and II who may have lost such right by reason of con-
viction of crime. Not applicable to anyone having an unfinished or
suspended sentence.

Notary services.-Officers of posts of veterans' organizations may per-
form notarial services in connection with matters affecting veterans.
No charge may be made for any such service.

Commissioned officers of certain rank may perform notarial
acts for a member of the Armed Forces or the husband or wife of such
member, or for a member of the merchant marine.

The State service commissioner and assistants are authorized
to administer oaths and affirmations, to take acknowledgments, and
to perform all other duties required of notaries public.
Public-record certification. The bureau of vital statistics of the State
board of health is required to furnish, upon proper request and with-
out charge, copies of birth and death certificates needed in establishing
claims of veterans who are residents of the State or their dependents.
Also, to furnish free and without delay birth certificates for any persons
volunteering in the armed services.

Honorable discharges and records of service shall be recorded,
and copies furnished veterans, without charge, by chancery clerks in
all counties.

Marriage records. Certified copies of marriage licenses, divorces and
adoption decrees, or other records shall be furnished by circuit clerks
or chancery clerks when needed in establishing claims of veterans who
are residents of the State or their dependents.

Free copies of all records shall be furnished where needed by
Veterans' Administration to determine eligibility for benefits.
Recording of discharges.-Recordation of discharge certificates and cer-
tificates of service, free of charge, in a separate book or ledger.
Service officers, etc.-The county welfare departments shall cooperate
with the State service commissioner and aid veterans, their relatives,
beneficiaries or dependents, in securing from the United States any
compensation, hospitalization, insurance, or other benefits to which
they may be entitled.

The State Veterans' Affairs Board (State service commissioner
and assistant service commissioners) shall assist former and present
members of the Armed Forces of the United States and their depend-
ents, in securing any benefits or privilege under any Federal or State
law or regulation, to which they may be entitled.
Medical consultant. Board of Veterans' Affairs may, in discretion,
appoint medical consultant to advise, assist and counsel the Com-
missioner of Veterans' Affairs and any veteran or his dependents on
all aspects of veterans' medical claims work as heeded or directed by
board.

to inspect, approve and supervise institutions for training of veterans
under Chapter 35, T. 38, U.S.C., and subsequent amendment thereto.

the Governor; acquisition of surplus Federal property.
Exemption of attorneys in the Armed Forces from payment of State bar
association dues during active military service.

Powers and duties of State building commission in the training of re-

an office for the State director of on-the-job training for veterans.
Surplus property procurement commission is authorized to assist
honorably discharged veterans of World War II in securing surplus

Employees who entered the Armed Forces after Sept. 16, 1940, 25-13-17.
shall be credited for such military service, under the public employees
retirement system.

All public officers and employees are entitled to leave of absence, with- 33-1-19; 33-1-21.
out loss of pay, etc., when called into military service, and must be
reinstated to former position upon termination of such service. Any
person reinstated shall not be removed, without cause, for 1 year.
Public officers and employees' retirement system gives credit for service
rendered in the Armed Forces.

Highway safety patrol.-Preference shall be given to former patrolmen 45-3-13; 45-3-15. who were called into military service. Patrolmen are not exempt from military service.
