Aventin

Presented by Geographische Gesellschaft.

The original of this map of Bavaria was printed in 1523, and is the work of Aventin, the first Bavarian historian. It was discovered at the beginning of the nineteenth century by Baron von Aretin in the monastery at Tegernsee, but seems to have been forgotten until 1843, when it was deposited in the library of Munich; and it is only now, after this lapse of time, that, by the favour of General von Lobenhoffer, a reproduction has been allowed to be published.

The map is accompanied by full explanatory letterpress and a facsimile reproduction of the original dedication.
