our daily food: and we know, O Father, that thou art more ready to grant it than an earthly father is to grant bread to his children. Guilty, weak, and helpless as we are, it is our comfort that thou, our heavenly Father, knowest all our wants, and wilt supply all our need, not according to our necessities, but according to thy riches in glory by Christ Jesus. Like a tender Father, thou art ready to notice the earliest desire of our souls after thee the feeblest step toward thee. It is thine own gracious promise, "Before they ask, I will answer; while they are yet speaking, I will hear.' Into thine ear would we pour all our sorrows, and having cast our burdens upon thee, would go away, and be no more sad. And O, our Father, let us not only mourn, but rejoice before thee, as the children of thy love. Lift up upon us the light of a reconciled Father's countenance; let no allowed sin separate between us and our God; hide not thy face from us; put not thy children away in anger; leave us not, neither forsake us, O God of our salvation. O that it may ever be the joy of our hearts to be righteous, as thou art righteous, to be merciful, as thou, our heavenly Father, art merciful; as thou art holy, so may we be holy in all manner of conversation. And let the relation we bear to thee as thy children,

fill us with love and kindness towards all our brethren of mankind. Let all those whom thou wilt own for thy children, most gracious Father, be united to thee, and to one another in holy bands of love; bearing one another's burdens, and joining together to advance the honour of thy holy name, and to shew forth thy praise; and at last may we make up one great family, which no man can number, and unite in ascribing "Glory and praise to Him who sitteth upon the throne, and to the Lamb for ever.' And since thou, our Father, dwellest in heaven, may our affections be raised above earthly things; that we may seek heaven as our country, where we hope to possess those mansions which Jesus, our elder brother, has prepared for us in our Father's house. There may we be together with his Father, and our Father, with his God, and our God! Amen.

"Hallowed be thy name." "O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is thy name in all the earth, who hast set thy glory above the heavens!" All the hosts of heaven “Who is a God adore thy glorious name. like unto thee, glorious in holiness, fearful in praises, doing wonders!" Thou art worthy of all our honour, homage, and obedience; and that every creature in heaven and earth should tremble at thine irresistible power

admire thine eternal wisdom-and love thine infinite goodness. We tremble, O Lord, at the dishonour that is done to thy holy name, by our own sins, and the sins of others. We are grieved at the profanation of thy name, and the violation of thy authority. How are thy laws transgressed, thine institutions despised, thine orders contradicted, thy majesty affrouted, and thy glory trampled on! "Rivers of tears run down our eyes, because men keep not thy law." But we trust, O Lord, that the desire of our hearts is to thy name, and to the remembrance of thee. In thy name we rejoice and put our trust: we would take it with reverence upon our lips, and sanctify it in our hearts, and in our lives; and so glorify thy name in the eyes of the world, that others, seeing our good works, may glorify thee, our Father, who art in heaven. Let the happy time come, when all shall glorify thee, from the greatest to the least; when all nations-when every thing that hath breathwhen heaven and earth, and all therein, shall join in the song of Moses and the Lamb, saying, "Great and marvellous are thy works, Lord God Almighty! Just and true are thy ways, thou King of saints; who shall not fear thee, O Lord, and glorify thy name; for thou only art holy. And let the whole earth be filled with thy glory. Amen and Amen.”

Meditation for Monday Morning.

THE THRONE OF GRACE.

A throne, speaks authority, awe, and reverence ;- -a throne of grace, speaks encouragement even to the chief of sinners: there grace reigns and acts with sovereign freedom, power, and bounty. It is our duty and our interest to be often found before this throne of grace. Our business and our crrand there is, that we may obtain mercy, and find grace to help in time of need.

There are some seasons when we shall most seriously need the mercy and grace of God; and we should lay up prayers against such seasons,-times of temptation, either by prosperity or adversity, and especially a dying day; the Lord grant that we may find mercy of the Lord at that day.

In all our approaches to this throne of grace for mercy, we are permitted to come with humble freedom and boldness. We should ask in faith, nothing wavering; we should come with a spirit of adoption as children to a reconciled God and Father.

We are indeed to come with reverence and godly fear, but not with terror and amazement ;-not as if dragged before the tribunal of justice, but as kindly invited to the mercyseat, where grace reigns through righteous

ness, unto eternal life, by Jesus Christ our

Lord.

HYMN.

Come, let us lift our joyful eyes,
Up to the courts above,
And smile to see our Father there,
Upon a throne of love.

Now we may bow before his feet,
And venture near the Lord;
No fiery cherub guards his seat,
Nor double flaming sword.

The peaceful gates of heavenly bliss,
Are opened by the Son;

High let us raise our notes of praise,
And reach th' Almighty throne.

To thee ten thousand thanks we bring,
Great Advocate on high ;

And glory to th' eternal King,
That lays his anger by.

PRAYER

For Monday Morning.

Holy, holy, holy, Lord God Almighty: thou art of purer eyes than to behold iniquity, neither can sin dwell with thee. As guilty sinners we deserve only to be called to a throne of judgment, but through the Son of thy love thou art proclaiming it a throne of grace a mercy-seat! We come to touch ! that golden sceptre and live!
