WENDOVER (Roger, Monk of). Roger of Wendover's Flowers of History. Comprising the history of England from the descent of the Saxons to A. D. 1235. Formerly ascribed to Matthew Paris. Translated from the Latin, by J. A. Giles. London: M. DCCC. XLIX. 2 vols. 12mo.

An abridged history of the world, to 1235. The first portion is absolutely valueless. The second, beginning with 447 and extending to the year 1200, is of great value, a large part of the material from which the author drew his statements having perished. For the period of about fifty years preceding 1235, the author was practically writing a history of his own times. The earlier part (to 447) is not printed in this edition. It is now believed that the work previous to 1189 was written by John de Cella.
