vers: il est divisé en cinq parties. La première et la seconde sont composées d'Epigrammes la plus partes licentieuses et qui si on excepte un très petit nombre 'ne doivent jamais voir le jour." This transcript is believed to be in the handwriting of Brunck, the eminent scholar and critic.

At the end is the following note :-"Ce Manuscrit est la copie d'un in folio en papier de soixante feuillets de la main de Guyet qui a joint au texte, un grand nombre de Restitutions et de Corrections, avec d'autres notes pour l'intelligence du texte. Le Recueil est de plus de 700 Epigrammes, le tout fait environ trois mille 6536 JUSTINIANI PANDECTA: NOVUM DIGESTUM XII libros complectens, large folio, Manuscript of the XII Century written on VELLUM in double columns, with the Gloss of "ACURSIUS FLORENTINUS, DOCTOR LEGUM," written on the margins early in the fourteenth century, hf. vellum, £12. 1150-1200 present. The text is written in a very elegant character with headings and initials in blue and red. The character of the Gloss is not so good. The first few leaves have been supplied on newer vellum in a handwriting of the XV-XVI Century.

A RARE AND VALUABLE CODEX. It is older than the copy preserved in the Durham library, and only one MS. in that of Lyons exceeds, or rivals. it in antiquity. There are three copies at Oxford, and two amongst the Arundel and Burney MSS. in the British Museum; but all are of later date than the

Gibbon's emphatic recommendation of this interesting work is corroborated by the voice of all well-read men. "I cannot forget the joy," says he, "with which I first exchanged a banknote of twenty pounds for the first twenty volumes of the Memoires of the Academy of Inscriptions; nor would it have been easy, by any other expenditure of the same sum, to procure so large a fund of rational amusement."
