BOOKS FOR YOUNG READERS.-A SERIES of READING-BOOKS designed to facilitate the acquisition of the Power of Reading by very young Children.

The special feature of these books is that, even from the most elementary grade, they possess the interest which a connected narrative, however simple in wording, seldom fails to excite; and by this means make the reading lesson a pleasure instead of a dull piece of routine, and actually encourage the pupils to prolong it, or to practise the newly acquired faculty at home.

The first volume begins with words of three or four letters; the second, third, and fourth are rather more difficult; and the others may be taken up in the order given below.

The ten volumes are issued in strong cloth binding of a distinct colour for each, with cut edges, price 6d. each.

A large-paper edition, to range with Dickens' and Thackeray,' with the plates on India paper; 104 copies, numbered. 5 vols. imp. 8vo. Iol. I os. nett.

This handsome and imposing edition of a work, which justly enjoys a world-wide fame' will be welcomed by every true bibliophile. It is an edition to revel over for its luxu riousness, what with its superb paper, its lordly margins, its large and clear type, its admirable engravings, and its excellent binding. Croker as an annotator was the butt of a good deal of sarcasm, and Mr. Napier has done wisely in discarding many of his notes. Those which remain are only those which throw real light upon the work. But such service as this is not the only one rendered by the present editor, nor is it the most important. He has put together in a most readable form, as appendices, &c., a vast mass of information about Johnson and his friends, which was either not accessible before or accessible only to the uninitiated reader after an infinity of trouble.'-The Times.
